Many of you may never call this a Holy Grail game but it's actually one of mine.

The most commonly called "Grail games" come from what I consider the Golden Age of the arcade. Early 80's stuff but I think that many of the arcade games really hit my sweet spot are from the "Silver Age" Basicaly these are the games from the 90's. I love 16 bit to early 3D games.

One of my old buddies introduced me to this game 15 years ago and led 3 of us through the game with one quarter each...

It's probably one of the best 4 player coop games ever made. (Well balanced and few cheap hits)
It's a sequel and there are 3 games in the arcade for this franchise.
It had it's own dedicated cab with a very nice Marquee and control panel art.
This version was never was ported to a home console or DLC. (would be perfect for XBLA)

It's support in MAME is a little glitchy.

The franchise is dead from a poor X360 game that made poor use of the franchise (US developers)

I've got an emtpy spot in my garage saved for it... and at 5:20 PST I'll be home to meet the shipper dropping it off from Arlington Texas to San Jose.

Pictures are coming tonight...

It's great when the games you really, really want are also relatively inexpensive and available!

Play the crap outta that baby, I enjoy the Golden Ax series.

/Is 2 games a series? :)

3 games...

Golden Axe the duel for Sega STV.
6 button fighting game... I still count it since it was made in Japan by Sega.
Unlike the Beast Rider game for the 360.

There's a Golden Axe port on the iPhone/iPod Touch as well. As usual, the touchscreen controls suck. Maybe it will be easier to play on the iMaxiPad.

yup, as usual. Thats one of the many reasons you can replace original arcade machines.

Pics taken

got it home and did some light cleaning. The Marquee light was out so a new bulb and starter went in. I used the awesome sega test menu to bring up video tune screens. It's very easy to align the colors on a the tube with this.

Checked out things that were damaged on it like splitting panels and random holes etc. Overall it's good... sad how even though it's good... the damaged areas just annoy the heck out of me. Why would they put all of these screw holes all over....

Baddass cab man.. Lovin it.. I really enjoyed the Golden Axe games. Played through this one on mame and I don't remember any glitch issues? Man, makes me want to finish my mame cab even more now. Been dragging my feet on it but I think I'm gonna have to finish now.

Biggest problems were in the mode7 transitions. Background drops ... After the first boss, (amazonian woman) you move forward past that caged beak riding bird thing... as you walk forward.. there were small glitches. Sometimes animated sprites drop in the background also.

It could have gotten better actually, I played it on MAME a couple of years ago and then decided to just get my own JAMMA board till I found this one on ebay recently. They sold it as a board and marquee but offered anything as long as you paid for shipping. I checked with a shipper and they said $200 so I bid it up... It wasn't a cheap find but def a HTF cab in decent condition... nearly impossible in this area. I've seen more moving Outruns than GA:RODA machines on CL so I jumped at it. I don't know of anyone having this one local to the Bay Area, CA.

Other things to note.

I think that the Marquee here is transalite behind glass. I think that the Monitor cover was originally glass also. 2 doors down is a glass guy. Going to get that replaced.

Guess I never payed attention to the full arts on that game. That's pretty sweet. And a great game too.
