Ok, so my first paid-for game I ever got, Asteroids, has a pretty bad cab. The side art is...ok at best, but it has gouges here and there but otherwise intact. The cab itself though - there are drywall screws going through the sides to the front piece, and the complete back from the back door down is gone, all the way to the floor. In addition, I think a former OP removed the coin bucket shelf in lieu of a trash can (I heard this was done often for high performing Asteroids). On top of all that, the entire wire harness is dangling inside, not screwed to anything. Even with all this, its been the most reliable game I've ever owned.

Ray (Mundoman) hooked me up with a freebie Asteroids cab...and it has some paint splatter on it. Its actually white paint and almost looks like it belongs (extra stars lol), but I'd have to try to clean it off the front and some of the t-molding at least. On top of that, this cab is solid and has the coin bucket shelf.

I'm having mixed feelings...little attached to the original cab but at the same time it needs all kinds of work which wouldn't be original anyway. The replacement cab doesn't look as nice but its in a lot better physical shape.

What would you do? My thoughts are to switch anyway and hope for a better one down the road. I'm curious to know if I can use goof off on the front (is that melamine?) and possibly the sides to clean up the paint splatter. Will goof off kill the vinyl?

I'd do the swap... I'd love to hear about goofoff. I have the same white paint splatter issus on one of mine. I was worried about messing up the artwork so I didnt try it.

My first cab was also a total loss. No side art, waterlogged cab. I found a replacement cab with painted over side art for $50 and I've never looked back. Do the swap.
