Not so friendly klover!

chances are his mom set his curfew to 9pm and his hot pockets were getting cold in her basement

God forbid you offered him a drink or asked if he'd like to use the restroom before leaving or he would've really sperged out

I had a game for sale on KLOV here that someone committed to buying. We spoke via pm, and he called me to let me know he was on his way, and that he was far from home (1.5hrs) and didn't have time to really hang around and talk.
Ok...No problem.
We are in my garage pulling out the game, and while we were in the process of moving it out, I asked him how long he had been in the hobby for. His response was...
"I TOLD YOU I DIDN'T HAVE ANY TIME TO TALK!"
I almost threw him out of my house, but he had cash in hand, so I didn't say anything after, just put the game in his truck, and left.

I have been burned by one KLOVian personally ... for an Outrun middle sticker ... it was like 2009 and I can't remember who it was... and I think I sold the Outrun shortly thereafter.

I met and actually thought I was going to become friends with a local guy who was also on KLOV BITD... 2008-2009 or so... the guy never burned me but ended up burning a bunch of people here. He ended up being a huge liar who lied about damn near everything ... to me... to the forum... it was really odd. He ended up getting out of the hobby shortly thereafter (thankfully). Eric... that was his name... I can't remember his nickname here... dude would lie when the truth sounded better. I was really disappointed in myself to be honest. I am usually a very very good judge of character and I had him wrong.

Tony Dailey seemed like a cool guy in person.

If anyone remembers when I posted about selling a CarnEvil to a couple driving a pimped out hearse, they had a curfew to meet of the police mandated variety... Case in point is that every kind of person covers every scope of every hobby.

I've only met perhaps 2 or 3 KLOVers and they were good experiences. Actually received pretty good deals. I wish I had some local KLOV or collector friends. That would be awesome. In the situation the OP proposed, I might be very slightly standoffish at first, until I got to know you, but once I did, I'd want a new friend! I certainly wouldn't have handled things the way this guy did.

Should've thrown him out . Being short on time is no excuse for being a douchebag without even the most basic of social skills .

No kidding...

"Excuse me? Know what? This isn't going to work out. I think I'd like you to please leave."

Chances are that would have been preceded with a "Really??" or two and followed up with a "Now." ... but for most that's all it would take. I'm sure there is that one dbag out there that would require a little more persuasion but I'd be hoping this guy wasn't one of those special folks and would just leave.

EDIT: Know what... there are a few people on this very forum I disagree with... some that I might not even much "care for"... but if I'm willing to do a deal with you, I'm willing to sit across the table from you and have a beer... which means I'm willing (and probably looking forward) to chat with you. I'm "proud" of the garagecade... and look forward to the few times a year I get to talk with someone in person about it (and games). While I am as introverted as the next KLOVian (probably moreso than some, less so (obviously) than others)... it just strikes me as "odd" when someone is THAt off-putting to someone else in the same hobby. As for anyone I'd be willing to be such a dick to myself... I'm not selling to that guy so there wouldn't ever be a chance to do so.

If I had someone over from KLOV to pick up a machine, I'd insist on making a day of it. Speaking of which, anyone want to buy a S.A.M.I and hang out for beers for the afternoon? Lol :D

I'm w/ Frizz on this one... not sure I would've been that nice though.

Gawd, I'm curious whom this was.

Whilst we are understandably more interested in what the girlfriend looked like in her jogging gear, I'm afraid to say that it's more relevant what OP looked like, for instance was there tight lycra involved.

I read body language pretty well (and sometimes ignore it to force the person to say what's on their mind), and I can tell that some sellers are not interested in hanging out for any length of time. They are usually friendly enough, but just seem to be in a hurry to get through with the sale. I imagine that this could be influenced by the wives, as my wife has a hard time understanding an all day arcade transaction.

The last time I tried to sell a game, it was to NevadaMac, and I am pretty sure we were BSing and playing games for around 6 hours. lol

If I don't actually have plans to be somewhere, I like just chilling out and talking games. Lets face it, outside of the other losers here, no one else is going to talk about these games and play them. I have a lot of good friends, some I have known for close to 40 years, but we really don't have anything in common anymore other than shared memories. My wife is also not interested in talking about the games much, so I really enjoy talking to people that are into this as much as I am. I have liked most of the klovers I have met. Going to events like CAX, PAGG, and Grinkfest are fun for me since those are the only times I see a lot of my friends.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt of having a bad moment with really bad timing. In fantasy he would've been through my window like Axel Foley in BHC #1, but in the event that this person was actually "unstable", I had to consider other things too.. I had my wife, and 4 month old son upstairs, and I wasn't worth things getting ugly, especially if something happened to me, my family would be at risk. He had the cash in hand, paid in full as promised, and went on his way. The second the game layed out in his pickup, I went back inside.

I don't think us video game collectors are losers but I would call us flat out nerds and I do mean that as compliment. Just own it and who cares!

Yeah don't think we are losers just passionate about particular topics. No lycra involved just shorts and t shirt for me. To be honest, by now I can't even remember what she was wearing lol

Absolutely! No lycra..... spandex, maybe.... but no lycra.

(Edit: And if you get an image in your head of me wearing spandex, don't blame me. You thought of that on your own.)

I've got two really close friends from childhood, going on 40 years now too. We spent all of our time together back in the day... IN THE ARCADES and they couldn't care less about this hobby. They like to play the games when they come over, but that's it. They have zero interest in my pick up stories, etc.

So when dj dns stops by from Virginia or behrmr pops up to drop off a monitor or some CL guy is buying something from me, we tend to shoot the shit. Sorry. Sue me.

I got friends that extend decades. We still get together and make new memories but honestly if I wasn't planning events and going on adventures. They would be those kind of friends who only memories binds the friendship together. They are the same kind who bitch up a storm if I don't do anything. Laughs.
