Not fast enough!

I missed a FREE working Pac-Man 2 weeks ago by about 30 seconds. A pac or ms. pac has on my wish list for a while now. They don't appear often in Utah and when they do they want $1,500+

I almost cried.

WHAT! Well it didn't go to us. Dang it I've been so busy I haven't been able to check CL and KSL to often. Look what I've missed out on!

sucks ya missed out on it, but you never know, maybe they had a big pricetag on it. too many people are jumping on the craigslist bandwagon which is a good/bad thing. but it sucks cause it means you've gotta be quick on the trigger to get anything anymore.

Your telling me. You have to check like every few hours all day to catch the good deals. Then be ready to jump on it right then!

So I asked if the guy picked it up:

Seller: Sorry, the guy picked it up already. It wasn't in working condition, needed a lot of work.

He was smart to have picked it up, I would have given up a lot for that game.

I was the lucky one who got it. Just beat out Mike too! Sorry Mike.

The lady was 2 miles from my job but I didn't have my van. I was going to get it tomorrow morning but decided I better go the 25 miles home at lunch time and get my van so I could get the game today. Sounds like that was a smart move on my part.

The game powers up. The screen comes on with a great picture and the pinball area all lights up. It just won't start a game.

The cabinet is in real nice shape but the playfield is worn really bad as is the sideart.

Needless to say I believe it was a good score.

Except I sent another e-mail and asked (why would I do such a thing??) Ready?

$45!

The work it needed was that 1/2 of the playfield lights were blown.

sigh...

You miss the post that SRW said he bought it with a pic right before your last post?

SRW - You can get a playfield overlay if you want one. They are expensive, but can make the playfield look brand new. Basically Phoenix Arcade is your friend.

So was it $45? Or was she messing with me?

That is the sweetest score EVER! I do't care about the side art, just stickers. Playfield art can be had too, but I think it is much harder.

I can't believe she told you that. I paid $200. Just beating out Mike's offer of $150.

Well I did harass her with about 15 e-mails prior. I think she just wanted to make me feel worse than I already did. Still AWESOME SCORE!!!

I have 10 of them what is it worth to you?

So did you start trembling when you found out it was a Baby Pac???

Yeah when I asked her what the game was I was expecting her to say it was some non working fighting game that I would have had no interest in. When she said Baby Pac I knew that the clock was ticking down on me to get it before anyone else.

The samething happened back in May with a church tag sale in Springfield Mass. It simply stated three arcade games. I asked and was told they had a working Neo Geo for $200, a non working Neo Geo for $100 and a non working Dragon's Liar II for $100. I asked him if he would hold the DL II for me and I would drive the 2 hours out the morning of the sale to get it. He said he would and to my surprise no one else inquired about them and I drove out and picked up the DL II. I sure was nervous in the days leading up to the sale as well as the drive out that day hoping nothing was going to screw up the deal.

I am very happy for you, but that is also what makes me sad about this forum, we local guys are competing for stuff and feel the sadness of losing out. I am glad it is going to a good home, nothing worse then if it was MAMEd! Can you imagine?!?!

I know of at least 2 Baby Pac's sitting in a barn at a guy's house. Not sure if they work or not though... he didn't have any power in the barn at the time.

It does feel good to get the score but I know the other side just as much. Mike and I are always competing to get to the next great score. Sometimes he beats me to it and sometimes I beat him. When you don't get it you are bummed. When you find out a friend got it you are happy for him but still wish it was you that got it.

Yeah, you no good game stealer, you beat me to it!! :)

Actually Steve has been at it a long time before I even started collecting and has had it pretty easy. Now I keep him on his toes. We actually have to tell each other if we got a deal brewing so we don't screw it up or raise the price for the other guy.

Some people don't realize how stressful it can be. You usually have to make a offer on a game you never saw. Hoping it won't be a total wreck. You have to be prepared at a moments notice to jump in the van/truck and get the game. And while driving there wondering if someone is going to offer more and screw up the deal before you get there. Collecting these things is a tough business to be in.
