Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't NOS mean new old stock. I would consider that to mean original and old but like new condition. I just purchased a set of side art from a fellow KLOVer it was NOS I get it and its wrinkly and has tears I can clean dust but it looks kicked. Best of all when I told them I couldn't use it he at least said, sorry about that.

It means it's a new and unused BUT old part. Condition varies all over the place on NOS parts. Always get pics before the purchase.

I think the general rule of thumb is N = new/never been used, with the assumption that it is not damaged or torn up.. aka "like new". Tore up and damaged, although never actually used kind of kills the NOS statement in my mind.... COP (Crappy Old Stock)

You are correct. And you'll find companies that bought the rights to the artwork will have licensed repro's made and call them NOS as well.
NOS is about a loose a term as SHOPPED is.

I learned the hard way that NOS doesn't necessarily mean "good condition" to some. Unfortunately, there are people here on KLOV (and thoughout all walks of life) that will take advantage of you. Ask for photos...and if you're dissatisfied with your current transaction and how the seller handled the situation after the fact, give him a neg and post in the neg forum. That is the only way people can know who to avoid and who not to avoid....

I hope the klover that sold it to ya makes some arrangments to make good on it. I have had dealings with 11 guys or so and all has went well. Best of luck. When I hear Nos I assume its minty unless otherwise stated.

I've bought several NOS/ Never been used items that were in sub-par condition physically. It's usually a bigger problem in adhesive-backed side art and CPO's. The sellers aren't really lying when they say it's never been used, but saying 'New Old Stock' gives us, as starry-eyed buyers who want to believe the best, the idea that it is and should be in 'pristine' condition - which is rarely the case. Even if it is NOS and unused, being improperly stored all these years takes almost as much of a toll on it as if it had been applied on a game in many cases. Time makes fools of us all.

always get pics. Even this is no guarantee. I've bought NOS bezels and marquees that still had the protective covering and are still scratched pretty badly.

Drop the "N" and it's super-accurate, though.

Yeah - in any hobby, "NOS" speaks nothing to the conditions it was stored in, whatever it is.

True. I have a set of Black Tiger side art that I found in the bottom of a conversion cab. It was never installed. Artwork looks fine, but the backing over the adhesive has bubbled and separated in several areas. I'm sure that new adhesive can be applied and it can be used and look perfect, but I'll be sure to explain these issues when I sell it....

What is BS is that a seller, if he has any integrity what so ever, should send photos of any defect on any item he/she is selling as NOS. It's bullshit to pull that kind of crap with a fellow KLOVian... hell, it's bullshit to pull that kind of crap with anyone.

Perfect example... the VS CPO I sold today. It's not NOS, I never advertised it as NOS, and I did post a picture of it. When I went to package it up I noticed a 1/4" indent and an 1/8" indent that I didn't realize were there. I took another photo, circled the problem areas and sent a PM to the buyer pointing out the defects. The buyer still purchased, but I felt good knowing I fully disclosed the issues with the product.

To do otherwise is BS IMHO... but some folks here (and around the world) don't operate the same way I do.

Ditto. I haven't sold much stuff, but when I have, I pointed out the flaws because the last thing I want is a buyer to be unhappy or think I'm a jerk for not disclosing the flaws that he might have not noticed. I would like to think everyone else does this, but I certainly don't assume it.

That is because you have Character Jon. :001_ssuprised:

The N in NOS isn't ambiguous. It means the old stock piece is in new-like condition.

If it's in the condition you describe, it's FOS, or Fucked-up Old Stock.

Simple English my friends.

With autos, NOS parts are sold all the time that have shelf or other types of wear, and are definitely NOT in "new-like condition".

New means new, old stock simply refers to age. I have had many dealings buying and selling so far everything has been great any problems were quickly taken care of. I know when ever I sell any thing I describe condition and have pics. I care about my feedback rating although many others don't apparently It seems I need to beg for someone to leave feedback, but that's another rant.

"New" in this context simply means unused. "Old" refers to the chronological age.

Regardless of that; it is good practice for the seller to disclose all known flaws before selling anything, regardless of whether it is new, NOS, used, refurbished, or whatever. I consider sellers who don't to be shady, or at the very least, careless.

It is also good practice for the buyer to ask before buying, of course.

So if a part falls off a shelf and gets run over by a forklift is it still NOS? Point is the seller in this case sold a damaged item reguardless if it was never used. Based on the info supplied in this thread I'd say the seller sucks.
