Got my NOS...never used...still in box wg6100 monitor today. unplugged old and plugged in new...fired right up. only thing is that there is slight color variations thru monitor. you can kinda see it in the pics. notice the x wing on left are both red...and on right top is purple and bottom is blue. also bottom right turns reddish when a green or yellow image goes by. also the red is darker on the left and lighter towards the right. i installed new monitor exactly how old monitor yoke was placed. dont know anything at all about monitor tubes so i dont know if this is fixable or how to fix. any help would be great. remember..i dont know anything about it...so please describe in detail if this is a fixable issue. this monitor was never used until today. just hope i can fix this. thanks!!

If the degauss is hooked up... then you turn it off... leave it off for awhile (so the degauss circuit cools down - think of it as a thermal reset)... turn it back on. Each time you do this, it will get better. Some times it only takes one cycle. Other times it takes several. Be patient, play the game and it should be fine over time. Nothing wrong with the monitor. Just being influenced by earth's magnetic field... or some speaker magnets nearby ;-)

i installed new monitor exactly how old monitor yoke was placed. dont know anything at all about monitor tubes so i dont know if this is fixable or how to fix.

Did you replace the ENTIRE monitor (CRT, frame, boards and all)?
Or did you just replace the CRT?

Just the crt

Like I said...I have know knowledge about monitors. So I don't know if degauss is on or off...or even where it is...what it looks like...whether I can tell if on or off...ir how to turn it on and off.
Or are u just saying to turn entire machine on and off? Now that I can do!... :p

If you replaced only the crt, and moved the yoke from the old crt to the new crt, you are going to have to re-converge the monitor.

See pages 36-38 of the K6100 FAQ, and Chapter 5 of the WG K6100 manual.

Manual degaussing will help little, if any.

Your screen looks perfectly converged. DO NOT touch the deflection yoke or magnetic rings.

Earlier you said you changed only the CRT. But I think you mean CRT with Yoke and rings factory installed, right?

They are perfect, WOW

You have a degauss problem as everyone said. Degauss is a de-magnetizing coil (Black taped wire, 2 pin plug) wrapping around the screen. It operates once, automatically, every time the game is turned on, provided it cools down enough.

A part called a posistor does it all. It is a resistor that is temperature sensitive. (Could be failed, probably not) see pic

So there are 3 things you could do. (As others said)

1. Try turning the machine to face north or south (for the purpose of this exercise) see if that makes a difference
2. Let the machine cool and turn on a few times (Auto degauss)
3. Get a degauss wand and do a de-magnetizing yourself (Manual degauss)

I'm pretty sure he swapped over the yoke and rings from his other monitor. I think Erik told me that he bought a NOS tube.

It's possible that the yoke may need to be adjusted slightly. Your convergence is OK, but if the yoke is too close or too far on the neck, you'll get some color distortion.

Google up the Wells Gardner 6100 FAQ and read it. It's lengthy, but worth the read. There's a whole section dedicated to convergence and purity.

The white looks so good, amazing then :)

No...I had to transfer the yoke from old to new...I only got a new crt...the neck of the tube was naked...there was nothing on it. I moved over the two parts that were connected...but tried to keep it exactly the same location as the old...

So before degaussing could I try moving yoke closer or further away from tube to help? Or should I not touch it? I will look up that manual tomorrow. For now just looking for the quick fix...;)

It may not be the quickest fix, but the EASIEST fix would be to play your game. Every day. Then shut it off. Every day.

After a few weeks, the problem will be gone.
