NOS monroe joystick(s)

my 2 cents

I've seen used for $35 and rebuilt by andrewb for $80. Considering many things in this hobby are obsolete, low $125, high $175.

If anyone complains, ask them to find you a less expensive NOS Monroe or even a more expensive, they can't.

If your Time Pilot or Gyruss restore is missing the key component (ie Monroe joystick) and you want the best, pay whatever the seller is asking.

I'm not suggesting an outlandish ebay price that is relisted for 9 months but a price that will sell them for you if you are indeed looking to sell them.

Are they the Time Pilot style, or the Gyruss style? The Gyruss style is more complex, and has a round lower plate.

Also, be sure to include dimensions. There are different shaft lengths, and ball diameters. And if someone is buying one to match others (e.g., for a Rampage CP with 3 sticks), they will want them to match.

I would value the Gyruss type higher, as they are rarer. But $125 for the Time Pilot style wouldn't be unreasonable, IMO.

I'm too stupid to figure out klovimg yet, so 1 pic at a time.

I wasn't aware that many people were looking for Monroe sticks.

Ive purchased 2 Gyruss cabs with the Monroe swapped out for a different joystick. Cant say that its that common, but I assume people run into the same problems and want the original.

Reminds me.... I need to find out the disposition of the Star Guards I saw earlier in the year.

I am so interested in this game now. Had never heard of it until this thread.

I did a quick search, and it looks like there are only a few threads (most started by g3n3r1c). VAPS only shows one owner, Vectorman, who has a NOS kit. There's a gameplay vid on Youtube, but it's only about a minute long.

I'd love to know more. What's the story? Any comments on gameplay? Seems like a rare and interesting piece of arcade history.

I remember the price check thread . I almost hit you up to try to buy it if you passed - it looks really cool !

I played it a couple times. Didn't really care for it. Neat looking cab from the front, and obviously uncommon. The guy who has it is an operator who is mostly out of the biz about 50 miles from me.

Seems a shame to separate the sticks from the rest of the NOS kit. If it's about money, that seems silly and I bet/hope something can be worked out.

Before you break them up, please do one thing and post the shaft length, and the diameter of the knobs of the sticks here. Just for restoration purposes.

There are different lengths and sizes of Monroe sticks, and it will be useful to know which ones that game came with, for anyone looking to restore one of these in the future.

My guess from the pics is that they're the shorter shaft (1" measured below the ball), and the larger knob (38mm). There are also 1.5" shafts and smaller 35mm knobs, and it's possible to have any knob/shaft combination for a Monroe stick.

I have sticks for it, don't worry.
It worked out for everyone with me getting the kit sans joysticks.
