NOS Major Havoc Conv Kit

And to think my Tempest was impaled to become a.......... Shinobi. :(

MM, are you sure this isn't yours?? After all, it is in FL :D

I would love any Major Havoc machine myself, regardless if it was a Tempest or Space Duel conversion. But a dedicated Major Havoc? Now that is the ultimate grail.

I've played it on MAME and it was 'OK', I wasn't screaming "I'VE GOTTA HAVE THIS!!" I'm guessing the MAME version does it no justice at all?

I would totally buy an art set. The cab used for my MH was a tempest converted to Star Trek. When I removed the Star Trek sideart, it removed the tempest Sideart with it. I now have prestine white sides... :)

I would argue that just because it's a grail for many and a very rare game, does not mean that everyone is going to like it. If you don't then you just don't. It's possible that you're not getting the real expirence with MAME but the gameplay is still going to be the same.

I may have to check _sentient's_ lineup and see if he has one to check out on the 20th.

I've been trying to get Archer to make these fantasy sets for years now... he did the mock ups but never did produce any actual art.

To each his own, but as much as I enjoy Tempest, I think Major Havoc is a way cooler game- regardless of cabinet.

And I know I'll get torched for this, but I actually like the Tempest cab better than the dedicated MH cab (not a big fan of the shape). Now we just need someone to do full-sized MH sideart for the Tempest cabinet. Something like this mock-up pic from another thread:

That'd look so sweet with a MH control panel.

Has want whats the hold up? do i need to buy 10 to get some made or something? any idea?

i could be wrong but i think this awesomeness deserves a bumpage

this guy is soo right. this kit is worth no more than the current bid. If none of you guys bid it higher i promise to let you play it once my converion is done. :)

I'm glad you agree with me. Your fascesiousness is duly noted. I was describing a specific situation for people who prefer the gameplay of Tempest. If I were to seek out a Major Havoc, I would accept nothing less then the original dedicated machine. Now for people who prefer Major Havoc to Tempest, then the kits are your grail. And I agree, the sideart kicks ass and should be reproduced for Tempest conversion cabs.

I'd buy a set.

/Jeff says as he exhausts beer fumes... :beerchug:

id buy a set also..wow that looks totally awesome.. someone said the game should be played in the original cabinet with original controller, you can easily place a ded controller on the tempest conversion. i plan to do it just havent gotten around to it yet..

If I remember correctly, cost was the issue. Archer didn't think he'd sell enough to make it worth his while.. I think he was quoting ~$300 as of a few years back.

Hello id buy a few if i had to, to make it happen, i could probably lay a grand down whats that like 3 and a third.
You got a good email or phone number for him or some one else who would do it well.

I've always thought that was the one set of side art that Archer really SHOULD have made. The original mock up also had a version for the Space Duel/Gravitar cab. Something about that all black cab with the 3D looking image is VERY cool. I'd go in for a set as well if it made it happen. It would be great side art for a Multi-Vector

I tried like hell to get archer to run a few sets of this stuff, i finally gave up, bought and restored a dedicated machine. Good luck guys!

I would be willing to bet that you guys could talk Rich at thisoldgame.com into printing that sideart if you really wanted it. In the last few months, he has started printing full side Tapper, Pole Position, Spy Hunter, and Discs of Tron artwork.

I'm in for a set of #4 as shown above.

AtariScott has the original films - perhaps TOG can borrow them and use them as the basis of the fantasy sets...

I actually really dont like the look of the original cabinets, i prefer tempest conversion, with the Fantasy* side art, big time. This is how it should have been made.
However original ded style controls would be cool, i dont know alot abot it but from what i under stand the dedicated/ original versions used a track ball, and tepest conversion uses a spinner? feedback?
