NOS Gauntlet Legends video cards -- found!

Found this guy on Ebay that I wanted to spread the word about:

He's got a box of NOS Gauntlet Legends video cards, prices are reasonable, and he's good to deal with.

My video card on mine started flaking out (error code after showing 8 on the diag LED) and I purchased one from this guy and it's been perfect ever since. Then I purchased a spare because of the tendency of the cards to fail.

These same 3dfx Obsidian cards will quite possibly work for the related Vegas games too but that is detective work that I'll leave to you.

And no, I'm not the seller -- just trying to help out the KLOV brothers that have games that are down because of this.

Just make sure they match -- some of the Vegas games may use different video cards.

I can confirm that these work fine for Gauntlet Legends.

Just out of curiosity could a video card be causing me not get get any green or red color? All I'm getting is blue. I've tested both red and green guns and they seem to be working(I bring the blue feed through the red monitor wire and the screen goes to red and when I run it to green everything is green?) Sorry this is for Gauntlet Dark Legacy

Don't know -- that isn't the typical symptom.

Usually when they fail you get an error code when the game boots.

Do you have anything else that puts out a medium res signal that you could test with? That would answer your question in a hurry.

Don't know what monitor you've got but if it'll handle standard res pictures too then I'd hook some other game up to it and see if you have an issue with the other game.

I had a Hydro Thunder that had a video card that went out. After painful months of not knowing what was wrong with it, I finally got a hold of a tech that used to work for midway that told me this. So, I replaced it with one that was being sold on ebay. The EXACT same thing.

And it DID NOT WORK.

So, after deciding the tech was a moron, I kept looking for what was wrong with it. Going back to the tech and telling him what I've done, he said that the cards were ever ever ever so slightly different for piracy reasons, or whatever. He was able to take mine and modify it to work with my game.

The point of this story is, don't be so sure those work. So everyone stop high fiving each other over this find until you know for sure it will work.

I get the PC Obsidian. Never had 1 issue with any of them. I only had to remove the bracket where it fastens to the pc case.

OK, so I have no idea if this will work for this particular issue on RedWarrior's machine because the symptoms are very different from how they usually seem to fail.

I can say with 100% certainty that these video cards work in Gauntlet Legends machines because mine died and I replaced it with one from this seller on Ebay and it works perfectly. So then I decided to buy a spare from the same seller "just in case" and plugged it into my game and tested it out and it too works perfectly.

That's why I got excited and posted the original post all those months ago because there were a large stash of NOS cards, they worked perfectly in GL, and the prices and seller were quite reasonable.

First off thanks for giving my particular issue some thought......As stated before I get absolutely no errors messages and everything starts up fine just blue. We tested the red and green guns with the blue signal and both work---leading me to believe this is not a monitor issue. Sooooo If the video card output was bad would it show up in error message? Thanks to ToplessZ he has some new video cards so I figured that is the first place to start.

Well I had some guys from work that have done work on CRT's before come take a look and yeah I think we can eliminate the chassis. Correct me if I'm wrong but if it was a problem with the monitor board, the Red and Green tube would not illuminate when blue feed was put to it correct? Again not to confuse but the screen is only Blue, so we test the green and the red to make sure they were working as well. When we sent the blue feed to the green gun screen goes green, same with red.

Ok ran through the systems tests and I was not able to get the green or red to show up through there as well? At this point I'm lost!

Try testing the video card with a normal PC monitor connected directly to the video card, first find the dip in test mode to put the board in VGA. Your problem could be the little interconnect video cable or the rest of the game board that passes the video, and not the video card.

Ok Tested with computer monitor and got it to work after switching the dip switch to VGA....as far as the monitor is concerned we also got that to work but by basically bypassing the video card running through the rest of the boards and taking the output from video card and running it straight to monitor...we used a standard VGA cable/connection coming from the video card and on the other end cut the connector off and ran the wires in the wiring connection connected the original wiring harness and the monitor. This worked and now the game is operational with all colors showing on the screen.

I don't know about a model # but toplessz here has them for sale or he did anyway.

I bought several from the original Ebay seller. Some of the versions were slightly different but they all worked fine.
