So I got a very nice DOT CPO from ThisOldGame, and I went to work on my control panel to get it ready. As I was peeling the CPO off, I found that it had been stuck over an identical CPO. The one on the bottom appeared to be preserved very well! Very few cracks in the bends. The top one left very little, if any, sticky residue. Looks like I can hold onto the repro until this one gets beat up.

Anyone else ever find a CPO like this? I can't think of a reason anyone would do this other than to just peel off the old one in the future instead of peeling and re-applying when it gets worn.

The last pic shows Rich's CPO on top, the control panel with the bottom CPO, and the top CPO at the bottom.

It's very possible at the factory a worker might have slightly damaged the one underneath and just applied another one over it.

One thing is FOR SURE. You can bet that the person who did this at the factory nearly 30 years ago had absolutely NO IDEA that we would be talking about this on a computer network that the whole world can communicate on!

That is awesome.... you are going to leave the original on there, right?

Without being able to see the overlays in close detail, Rich's repro looks great. I should have held on to my DOT!

I wonder if the worker got in trouble for having more control panels than overlays when his shift was over?

The colors and layout on Rich's overlay are damn close to perfect. It actually looks like there is a defect in the Player One graphic on both originals that has been corrected in Rich's, so you could say his is better!

I don't mind going down to the metal and reapplying a CPO, but the original one is way better than what I consider acceptable so I'm keeping it. I don't want all my games to be mint perfect, I think some scrapes and dings add character to a game, but in this case the top one had to go.

You know, it is always awesome to see things you have never seen before with games that are over 20-25 years old.
Thanks for sharing this!

The closest I've come to that is when I pulled the artwork off my Super Six darts only to find more artwork (in great condition) under it...

It cleaned up pretty nice. It seems there was a defect on the left side where there are some white streaks. I thought this was old adhesive when I pulled the top off. I guess that's why they put the other one on. Way to go Bally/Midway QA Dept!
