Op friend of mine is moving. Was cleaning out his basement and came across an opened NOS Anteater kit. He says it's a full kit and he never wound up using it to the best of his memory; contact paper still on marquee, bezel, etc. What do you think that could fetch? I saw a working PCB and marquee went for $600 on here not too long ago so I'm guessing easily north of that.

Edit: Manufactured by Tesco (or something like that). Not sure if that matters.

Definitely should be scanned! Very cool. Hard to find and wicked fun.

I've had a few people contact me about buying the kit, but my foremost concern is getting this scanned for the good of the community at large. What's my best bet in getting this scanned properly?

Post a wanted thread asking for someone to scan it. I suspect one of the more well-known guys here who have the capability will step up.

is this sold yet? anteater is one of the most amazing games ever. Im' surprised it wasn't super popular (I used to play a knockoff on my apple IIe and when mame came along it made my day!)

I would actually build a brand new cabinet to make a pseudo dedicated anteater!

You should reverse engineer and repro Anteater boards. (Or perhaps reproduce the game in another environment, per your 'make a new game from scratch' thread.) I know it's not exactly making a game 'from scratch', but I think you get where I'm coming from.

I'm sure many people would love to play it, if it were available in some easy-to-acquire form.

Actually I was thinking about that it's such a rare game I was considering trying to repo it like that major havoc repro or doing some kind of fpga if I got it. This game needs to get out there in others hands. It's a great game and what I like about it is think is the kind of game if I ever had kids I'd want them to play, lots of thinking involved and non violent

Amazing pickup! Please have someone scan both the side art & the marquee. I'd love to build one one day.

So the short story long is that this is sold. However, the stipulation of the sale was that before any money changes hands and this leaves my possession, all of the artwork will be properly scanned and a good, high quality image be preserved. Also, I am going to dump the ROMS and make them available to the MAME team; someone had mentioned that they would be interested in this. Said buyer was good with these terms. So, rest assured, this kit isn't going anywhere until we have all this stuff "documented" and available to the community/hobby.

I am going to start a thread in the general section so this gets more views to see if there is anyone semi-local to me that can do a good, high-quality scan of this stuff. No offense to anyone, but shipping it off to someone to get scanned makes me nervous.

I clean out my basement a few times a year and sometimes find ants... but NEVER find an NOS Anteater kit! This is amazing!

I'm going to go play it on mame right now since that's all I've got :(

It fell behind a work bench apparently. If he wasn't moving out and disassembling said bench, it would probably still be down there.

Yup it's sold. Made a deal last night pending me scanning the art and dumping the ROM's.
