Ok I have a very interesting problem. I recently purchased a neo geo arcade machine (used of course). This worked perfectly for a number of weeks until the image came up blurry and playing the games became nearly impossible. SO I opened the back and messed with the focus/brightness knobs. This helped nothing at all and now the sound is acting up as well.

I think I need to replace the monitor and possibly the audio and maybe even the single slot (original) motherboard.

What do I do, where can I buy the stuff and can someone help me. I put a lot of money into this and I want it to work.
I also am a complete noob and know very little about the workings og the arcade.

slow down.. doubtful you need to replace everything at once...

the focus / brightness had no effect at all? or just not enough to help?

the audio has nothing to do w/ the monitor... what is the audio doing that is 'acting up' ?

Many monitor problems can be fixed with a simple cap kit... not all, but many...

First of all saying what model the monitor is can go a looong ways here.

You need to start checking voltages. A simple voltage adjustment might solve your audio issue. As far as being blurry, check to ensure the focus wire is properly attached. Otherwise typically a cap kit and/or a flyback are necessary.

Ok guys thanks. I did try to adjust the brightness and focus, but it doesn't the image any clearer, it just gets blurrier or remains blurry. I don't quite know the voltage or what the actual monitor model is but I can check it tomorrow and post a reply.

Every once in a while it seems like the audio channels go out, it makes static noise, or it keeps repeating things that have already been said.

post a picture of the monitor...
or go to www.therealbobroberts.net and check his "ID your monitor" link...

and consider sending your monitor chassis to chad at arcadeup here for the cap kit / flyback repair if you don't feel up to it...

and of course read / see video about discharging your monitor before taking the chassis out.. for your safety...

Ok will do, many thanks. I'll do all that but currently mid-terms are coming up in school so I'm very busy. I'll get to it.

I'll check out that site and post some pics, probably after thanksgivivng.

Yep K7000 series. Those are infamous for crappy flybacks. Spend $25 and get a new one and since you have to pull the chassis you might as well cap kit it as well.

agreed... get parts from bobroberts and give it a try..

make sure you search on how to do them.. and discharging the monitor tho...

Ok are there any videos on the web or a good instructional website where I can be told how to do all this?

here is how to discharge a monitor..

this is the potentially dangerous part... but no big deal once you do it...

as for cap kits...

you will need a solder gun and solder, and a desoldering iron.. you can get cheap at radio shack ..

and if you are not good at soldering..practice first on something you dont care about.. an old computer board, etc...

basically you follow the cap kit map.. replace each cap one at a time... making sure you dont put any caps in backwards...
