Nolan bushnell rejoins Atari !!!

It's sort of like Carroll Shelby sitting in the passenger's seat inside a junked and parted-out Mustang...

in all honesty what kind of impact could he have on modern home gaming now a days? its a totally diffrent animal then decades ago

but cool for nostalgia i suppose

Neat from a nostalgia perspective, but in the grand scheme of things, his return to video games would have been just as news-worthy regardless of who the actual business is he is joining. To consider what people are calling "Atari" these days as "Atari" is silly. The "intellectual property" and "back catalogue" of Atari has changed hands NUMEROUS times since Nolan Bushnell was involved.

There hasn't been an "Atari" in the sense that we think of as collectors since the late 1980's. Once the Lynx was killed around 1992, and the subsequent death of the Jaguar shortly thereafter, "Atari" as we know it ceased to exist as far as I am concerned...

How big of a company is Atari these days? Maybe they should target a niche group, like the type of people on this forum, and the type of people on the AtariAge forum. How about manufacturing brand new official replacement parts for their old arcade machines, consoles, and home computers? How about making official "mod" parts/kits, like S-video output for their old consoles and computers, or high score save kits (or whatever) for their old arcade boards?

I'm not a business man however. Maybe it isn't viable.

It cant hurt can it? I think it lends the current Atari at least a semblance of credibility. Plus maybe He has a great idea banging around His head.

Yeah, because there's no way a past founder could come back and impact the company. I mean, look at the shitty job Steve Jobs has done with Apple.

I don't see what Nolan could really do. I highly doubt any new home systems, the arcade business is dead. If they did release some console, I bet it would be similar concept to the Wii. But that will never happen.

Actually, it would be pretty crazy if Atari introduced a new console. They still have name recognition. It could be successful.

Yea it's hard to say what could really happen. I mean at one point there was no Atari and somehow it made a name for itself with Nolan at the top. What's to say Atari has to come out with a new console? He could come up with something we haven't seen or thought of yet and put Atari back up there again.

Maybe my timeframes are off, but didn't Apple introduce the iPod after Jobs came back? That seemed pretty profitable a few years ago.

I'm thinking more along the lines of the Flashback console... maybe they'll finally release the portable that has been rumored for a few years...

I highly doubt they will be putting out any hardware. Some cool games - that's about it.

IMHO gaming has stalled out. How many more FPS shooters can any dev shop come up with and still make money? I'm hoping Atari (or some company) can shake things up a bit, like taking Android and invent some crazy multiplayer experience that nobody thought of, or console gaming and change the way players interact. There's a yet-to-be-discovered dimension in gaming somewhere, and somebody is bound to find it sooner or later.

...might as well be Atari. That'd rock.
