Just picked up a 6 Player X Men arcade and after having it up and running for about 5 minutes I started hearing some crackling noises from the back of the cabinet. Its pretty loud and noticeable. The 6 player xmen has two monitors. At first I thought it might be coming from one of the flybacks from the #2 monitor. Unplugged the monitors, booted the machine up and still hear the noise. Then I thought my ears might be playing tricks on me and the noise was feedback from the speakers. Unplugged the speaker booted up the machine and still hear the noise.

Is it possible its coming from my isolation transformers? Machine has two of them. Ive been working on machines for 8 years and never came across a broken/noisy transformer. Is this the issue? Away from my shop and wanted suggestions before switching them out.

Over 12 years later this post just saved me more than $100. I was just about to order a new iso to replace the loud humming one in my Galaga 88, and the shipping costs to me in Canada were deadly! So I had a close look, and realized one of the 4 mounting screws was missing! I found a replacement screw, tightened it down and suddenly….. silence. Sweet sweet silence! Why someone removed that screw I do not know, but what a difference. Thanks :)
