No thread for Skyward Sword?

I found it to be more than a fetch quest. But I can see where the argument comes from.

I was disappointed in the lack of variety, to some extent. There were only four environments. Granted, each was very nice looking and fairly vast. I would have liked to see more connection between them. Why did you have to return to the sky to go between them?

I'm only about to complete the Earth Temple, but I've already been wondering the same thing. The sky has too much...sky...sort of like how Wind Waker had too much water. Gimme more places to go! I mean, hell, they must be inbred as hell up there in Skyloft!

Just now getting to the robot dude's ship. I'm enjoying the game and story, but the controls are still the killer for me. I understand wanting to add all this motion control, but it shouldn't come at the price of making simple tasks more difficult. And man does that thing have to be recalibrated ALL THE DAMN TIME.

After Nintendo's comment about never going back to traditional controls after Skyward Sword...I'm not sure how I feel about the future of Zelda games and my desire to play them...

Agreed. I love the series but the damn motion controls kill me. The game is great though I just hate the controls.

I was okay with the controls in Twilight Princess. I don't know why they changed them so much for Skyward Sword.

I also don't understand why they didn't make it possible to choose left/right hand controls. I'm right handed, so yay for me, but I've read a lot of lefties who have a hard time with it since Link's right handed. Not to mention that Link has always been a lefty himself (until the Wii version of TP, of course). Since this Link is the Link, I'm a little surprised they didn't go that extra step and at minimum let you decide for yourself.

Oh well!

I had no issue with the motion controls. In fact compared to Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword is a godsend. No more tacked on BS controls from Gamecube to Wii. The motion controls actually work and work well.

As much of a classic gamer as I am, I have to begrudgingly admit I'm enjoying the motion controls quite a bit. Plus it's a stellar game on top of that so bonus.

The motion controls are awesome, ya'll are gay.

I'm 98 hours in and STILL not done. Just helped that big whale in the sky and now I gotta go find a song.

I still have yet to play this one (stupid Skyrim), but I liked the controls for TP. In fact, I never knew it was a GC title with "tacked on" motion controls for the Wii version until after I was done playing it. At no point during my playthrough did I ever feel that the controls were an after thought.

I've only played a couple of hours so far (I just got the 'real' quest and my glowing sword), and I'm loving it so far. I liked Twilight Princess, but it took forever for me to get into it, this has grabbed me much quicker.

The problem I have with the controls:

The beetle will start going left or right by itself and you can't correct it. Sometimes it works great other times I'm flying all over the place.

The mine cart thing would not register which way I was tilting the controller. Almost stopped playing the game because of that one...

When fighting, I'll slash horizontally and link does a vertical slash....or vertical slash and he does a horizontal.

It works sometimes and I enjoy the game, I just feel it gives me problems more than it should.

Sounds like a calibration issue to me. Or maybe your motion plus is fubared? I've never witnessed any such problems with my wife's playing.

This.

So here's a question for you all, then. Who is using the old Motion+ add-on (for old style wiimotes), and who is using the new wiimotes with it built in? I'm using the old add-on. I got the bundle pack, but didn't take gold wiimote out of the package. Maybe the new models function better?

I used the controller included with the bundle. Since I bought two, I didn't mind opening up one to play with.

I have the exact same problems with the motion controls. I would swing one way, link would swing the opposite. And these were at points you can't calibrate, so there is no helping it.

Also, when rotating the keys for the main doors I had one act completely backwards for me. Every other time it was grab, rotate the way you want it and it goes that way. For one (I think it was the second time through the dungeon in the forest) I would rotate left it would go right, forward and backward were alright... but man it took forever to get it where I wanted it.

I will miss traditional controls. I don't think the motion controls hinder the game too much, and I'm sure they will get better with future releases... but I will always pine for days of old with traditional controls.

I didn't buy the Wii for the motion controls, and I didn't buy a Kinect or Playstation Move at all. I will admit, my arm did get tired during the first few hours of the game, and started feeling sore. After I got used to it I didn't have much problem, but it was still a pain... guess I need to work out those muscles in my forearms more...............

One issue I've noticed very consistently is that if I attempt to do a spin attack while my sword is put away, Link ALWAYS does that vertical attack. However, if I have my sword out and do the exact same motion, he always does the correct spin attack.

The only time I've ever gotten him to do it right was when I made the motion very exaggerated - meaning, I moved my arms apart very wide. But come on, no one is going to play like that.

Does anyone else have problems catching bugs sometimes? That seems a bit finicky to me...

Yeah, a lot of time. I need to get the bigger net - I hear that helps. The problem is that there's no real swinging motion. He doesn't swing nearly as fast at you do, so it ends up registering weird and not doing what you want. You kind of have to just barely move in the right direction and you'll usually get the bug, birds, or whatever you're after. But those fast moving bugs can be a pain.

I tried out the bundled gold wiimote tonight. It didn't make much difference, other than being a little less cumbersome since there's not the added weight or length of the original addon. I don't think I'll keep using it, though.
