No thread for Skyward Sword?

I like Zelda and want the new one to do well, but ever since OOT it just feels like the franchise has been spinning its wheels.

It's the same exact formula each game with a new gimmick thrown in. Often they even strip out some of the old features. The graphics are good for the Wii, but they really haven't kept up with the competition.

I was literally growing up with the original Zelda games. They came out several years apart and each game was a little more mature and complex, not unlike myself at the time. But after OOT came out, it felt like the series didn't want to grow up with me anymore, and I abandoned it for more "mature" titles like Symphony of the Night, Metal Gear Solid, and so on.

I know it's a strange comparison, but I think it represents a lot of the early gamers and the evolution of consoles.

Supposedly this one is going to be much more difficult than they have been for a while, which should be nice.

It's not just the difficulty though, it's the presentation. The graphics still seem from an era past, there's not really any voice acting and the plot is thin and straightforward. Not to mention the lack of conflict between characters.

Zelda is all about the quest, but whether it's Luke Skywalker or Frodo or Solid Snake, they all have obstacles to overcome besides the big bad guy.

For some reason I didn't play Zelda back in the day. It was only during the last couple of years that I discovered how good the games are, and now I've finished almost all of them. I even re-bought all the old consoles so I could play each game on the original hardware. Skyward Sword is getting absolutely excellent reviews so I'll definitely be buying it too.

My favorite zelda game of all time is the one for SNES... Now if the new Zelda was coming out for PS3 *where I don't have to dance around with some shitty controllers* then I would have pre-ordered it!

I've had two Wii's and both didn't last long at all for me. The first I sold for dirt cheap and the second I gave to a friend.

To be fair, a lot of those complaints are tropes of the series really. So it may just be that Zelda isn't for you. The Wii just doesn't have the graphic power of the other consoles so there's not much that can be done about that either...

Sounds like I'm the only one who liked Twilight Princess...

I'm looking forward to this one, but it will be an xmas present for the wife, so I'm trying to not get too excited (since I still have to wait 1.5 months to play it).

You aren't the only one. I really enjoyed the Twilight Princess a lot. I thought the puzzles and dungeons were awesome.

I'm really looking forward to the Skyward Sword also. I have the special edition bundle pre-ordered and I will be picking up a copy of the standard one to play. I can't way.

Zelda is my favorite series on a Nintendo console.

That's my point. This series tried to make significant advances in all these aspects when it was young, and at the time it was one of the pioneer franchises, but it seems like they never managed to evolve beyond the formula OOT created.

All they've done in recent history is disguised their stubborn refusal to innovate as Nintendo trademarks.

"Link doesn't talk because... it's a Zelda game and Link doesn't talk."

The last two times Link talked, it was an abomination, so...

Also, while I understand, the series can't continually grow with you or else the next generation of youngins won't be able to grow up with it as well. At this point I think there is still that possibility though it's not quite as pronounced like when we were growing up with the series.

And yes, I have the special edition on preorder and am hoping like hell I finish the new Assassin's Creed before this comes out. Though I might just wait until after Thanksgiving anyway.

And yes, I though Twilight Princess was awesome.

Skyward Sword looks EXACTLY the same as Twilight Princess on Gamecube. There are way too many other good games out right now to spend time on it.

I grew up with the original Zelda and played the sequels, but it just feels as though this series hasn't gone anywhere lately. They took a step back with the cel shaded Wind Walker graphics and then came back to par after that and that is where they have stayed. Motion controllers don't sell me on this series. I love RPGs, but when you put Skyward Sword up against Skyrim, there is no way I could justify spending any amount of time or money on Skyward Sword.

Twilight Princess came out in 2006. A kid who played it when he was 9 years old is now 14 and has the allure of Xbox and PS3 content. I kinda had a similar dilemma when Majora's Mask came out and I saw all the PSX and Dreamcast games available.

You have an opinion and that's fine, I understand, but you're wrong and I hate you. :p

Edit: Also, who is comparing Skyward Sword with Skyrim?? They're completely different games.

I was comparing them because my time is very limited to play games. When I have options and only a limited amount of time, I am going to go for the best game in the genre that I want to play. Zelda has historically been an RPG/action type game. Skyrim is an RPG game. I like those types of games. From everything I have seen and played, Skyrim > Skyward Sword, so my money and my time will go to Skyrim. This type of choice isn't a problem for single console or die hard Wii fans because, they don't have the options that the other systems do as none of the top games are released for the Wii, but with all the hot games just released in the last few weeks...

Uncharted 3
Skyrim
Assassin's Creed
Battlefield 3
MW3
Batman Arkham City

...there isn't any time for a Gamecube rehash. Thank God I only have an Xbox 360 and a Wii or I would have to find time to squeeze in Uncharted 3 too.

Understandable, but I don't feel that it's fair to judge a game based on what else came out at the same time.

(PS - I'm not trying to change anyone's mind about the game, I'm no wii fanboy. Just bored at work. :p)

Twilight Princess looked like a gamecube game because it was developed for the gamecube. It was ported to the wii. This would technically be the first Zelda game for the wii.
