I got the cap kit done and put the chassis back in. The screen problem is fixed but now I don't have sound anymore. This is in an R-type and has the sound amp. I have re-checked connections but could be missing something. Thanks for your help.

sharp sound missing

bump. I'm still trying to sort this one out. Could any of the caps in the kit have affected the sound? The speaker cables come out of some sort of transformer on the side of the chassis. I can't get any voltage readings from these. Anyone have experience with sharp xm-2001 sound issues? I've tried another PCB and same Issue. Any help is much appreciated.

You should look at Ken Laytons posts. He can tell you all about that monitor. If your just having problems with sound I would check the pots! If this has a sound board on the monitor. Re-flow solder joints. If it does have the sound board check the lines into the board. Re flow the solder into the pins. Like I said look up Kens posts. He knows that monitor.

Do you have the trouble shooting manual? In section 5.6 is says "check for audio signal at the base of Q301. Is the audio signal received?" If not check audio input circuit Q301, C301, R301, and input cable.

If you have audio signal, go and check for signal at the collector of Q302. Is the audio signal received? If not check Q302, Q304, Q301, R315, C302, C306, R305, and R317.

If yes check audio output circuit. Q303, Q304, R318, R316, C305, C310, D301, T301, Output cable, and speaker.

I just checked my transformer, the black and white side had about 30 ohms and the red / white side had around 2 ohms. Mine has never been used, since the machine it came from had its own amp.

Don't forget to check the caps for the correct polarity. Its really easy to switch them around.

ok, thanks for the info. I will check what I've got and get back. I think a cap might be switched.

only seen one xm with dead sound and i found a open resitor in the amp circuit.
dont remember off hand..
