I just made a deal earlier tonight for a machine and I was picking it up at noon tomorrow. Now I got the dreaded text of a better offer which I have begrudgingly matched and it's ok for now. This is my first time to have to sleep on it...it sucks. Hopefully I can give you guys an unveiling tomorrow! Instead of the normal bitch fest.

NEVER post about a game until you own it.

Hope you haven't jinxed it.

Also, never play shill bidding games.

I always offer to PayPal a deposit to lock it in, once they commit it's hard for them to back out

The pricks still do. Only way to avoid it is to pick up the game immediately. Never, ever, ever, ever post anywhere that you bought a game if that sucker isn't on your truck or in your house.

If you buy a game from some one honorable, You don't have to worry. Sometime you buy a game from someone who you have to drive out there quick cause they will play the field..

I made an offer to someone for a game on ebay. They gave me their phone number and told me they would wait until the 'buy it now' listing ended to see if they get more attention. Five days later they send me a text message saying they accept my offer. Cool. As I am typing up my next text to go over pick-up details, he sends this: "Whoops. Let me get back to you. I had offered it to my brother and now he said will let me know tomorrow" ... And never heard back.

Rookie mistake #1.

Drop everything and pick up game right away. Don't wait or you will get hosed.

I hope it goes well for you, but that's really bullshit that they hit you up for more than the agreed upon price. Hopefully you'll get it, and Karma will strike them for their greed.

But yeah, I have broken the "don't post about it until it's yours" rule twice.....

Dig Dug cocktail

And the Pole Position I got from the operator whom is like family.

Again.... good luck!

this.

walked away from more than one deal that was going this route. i hate these for several reasons

* if a seller and buyer agreed on something, i don't wanna get in the way of an agreement
* bidding wars will easily get outta control
* if a seller is gonna let you have an item for an additional $50 (despite an agreement with another party), he'll quite easily let someone else have it for another additional $50 (without letting you know about it, regardless if you're already 2 hours into a 3 hour drive to pick something up or not)
* i wouldn't want it happening to me, so i don't do it to others. not saying it's "wrong" if you try to "over-buy" to secure a purchase, but that's just me

Also, never play shill bidding games.

Not all sellers will agree to you coming right away, especially if your making a deal in the evening. I'm sure the OP didn't want to wait but the seller dictates when you can show up.

Yes I offered to come right away, but the seller wanted to meet today at 12. Like I said, this is the first time I had to sleep on it. Only 4 hours to go.

Yeah, people can be crap that way. I've had it happen. But I've also had honourable people tell me they've been offered more but keep their word on the price we decided on.

I'd never do that. If I've agreed on a price, then that will be the price. I wouldn't sell myself out for $50 or $100 more. It's just a shitty thing to do.

After you've paid and have the game on your truck, tell them that politely.

Humm, no. I would just pay and leave. Can't preach to those who have that greed mentality.

But who knows, while there, strike up a polite conversation and maybe something good will come of it (reduced price, extra stuff thrown in, contact for more items, etc). I've had that happen. Dealing with some one IN PERSON is more "personable" than thru email/text etc.
