Just picked up a Tetris game with an RCA monitor... everything is cool except for there is no red... I checked the output from the board and it is working... there is an interface board that outputs to the monitor... how can I tell where the problem is... whether it is something in the chassis or the tube... I have read about "guns" not firing but I don't know how to safely test the tube... any suggestions?

The only way to "test" the tube is with a crt tester/rejuvenator. Otherwise you will have to start swapping things to see where the problem is. Such as trying the chassis on another compatible tube, trying the game pcb with another monitor, etc. I am unfamiliar with Tetris, but most of the time, assuming everything is hooked up correctly, a lack of one color or an overpowering color issue is a chassis or tube problem.

Are you sure it's an RCA chassis, and not, say, a Wells-Gardner with an RCA tube? I didn't think RCA made arcade chassis...

For me, suspect number one is always the color driving transistors, usually on the neckboard. There should be three larger, identical transistors on heatsinks; swap them around and see if the out color changes.

seems to be RCA...

monitor seems to be RCA...this thing is kinda thrown together... I will just start swapping...

Majority of the WG chassis I've had were on Zenith or Orion tubes, Noetec and Hantarex with RCA. Never seen an RCA chassis other than in a TV I shelled for the tube..
If it turns out to be a hantarex theres 3 transistors on the neck board, chck their connections and resolder.

I had the red colors go out in my Tetris. It was a Wells Gardener chassis with a RCA tube. I tried swapping the color transistors, doing a cap kit... But only after a tube rejuvenation did it work properly. I had to take it in because I did not have a rejuvenator. Was told there may have been dirt on the gun.

Wg k4600???

I checked the id site and the monitor is apparently a WG K4600... perhaps this lnfo can help... I havn't been able to pull the monitor yet but have checked the neckboard and trhere is some questionable things going on...

...

I just located the Red transistor (tr401) and it appears to be soldered to something it shouldnt be... do I need to discharge monitor to clean this up or can I just hit it real quick on the solder side of neck board... probably stupid question but important to know...

Just discharge the flyback anode and pull the chassis. Not sure if it is safe or not, but I never solder on a chassis while hooked to the tube.
