Does anybody know of anyone in the Washington DC are that can fix crt monitors? I just picked up a Silver Strike Bowling game from ebay and the monitor will not power up. Based on the sounds it was making everything else in the cab was working fine. I unplugged the power plug going into the monitor and heard a slight electrical crackle in the plug so I assume the power to the monitor is hot but no image, glow or flicker of any kind.

Thanks,
Will

There are plenty of people here that fix monitors that you can send your chassis to, but I would say read Ian's monitor thread first: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=143645 This will give you a starting point and possibly help you troubleshoot and fix the monitor on your own. Most of us on here can do minor monitor work- mostly because of the help on these forums! Oh, check out Bob Roberts' site too- www.therealbobroberts.net. Lots of good reading down at the bottom too.

Thanks. Maybe If I get a few minutes free time I will tinker with it a bit more.

hi where are you located in the dc metro area.
update your profile.

if you are close enough to me you could probably bring the monitor over and we could look at it.

take some pics of the chassis and post them so we can see what you have.

i work on several monitor types and can help get others going that i don't regularly work on.

WTF! I unload the game and plug it in to check it out again and the monitor came right on. Now everything else is dead. I think the power supply died in transport.

No loose connections. Nothing that gets its power from the computer power supply is coming on including the fan except one tiny little green LED on the mother board. I tried re-seating the cables and that didn't do anything so I started yelling at it and hitting it and that didn't seem to do too much either.

That only works for the Fonz. I was never that cool, so it never worked for me.

If you have a light from the PCB and a fan, you have something. Those things get pretty tossed around from moving them.

Try reading this first: http://therealbobroberts.net/buildit.html

It will take you through how it's put together. Get a feel for what's in it and what it does and you might find your problem easier. Knowledge is power!

Sorry, that was supposed to be no fan. A volt meter confirmed that no power getting to all of the power outs that I tested

Set it for 110 and trance to see if you have power anywhere. Check your fuses. I had a game I bought that had a screwy cord on it and found out the prong was bad.

also most computer power supply's wont turn on with out a load attached. fan, lite bulb, resister something.

and if there is a short somewhere they wont turn on either.

It is set at 115v. I have removed the cover for the power supply but I can't seem to find any fuses.

So do you have power going TO the power supply ?

Yes. The first thing I checked was the IEC cable (d-plug) going into the power supply.

Am I correct in thinking that the power supply from my Golden Tee Fore(red board) is the same power supply for the SS Bowling? I could try swapping them and seeing if that works.

Your red board power supply wont work for your Silver strike game. If the battery inside the bowling game craps out you will lose your power on settings. It has to be 3.0 volts for most of the games to work correctly.

Well so much for the power supply theory. I pulled the power supply and took it to a computer repair shop. He said it was fine and thought, based on what I told him, that the motherboard may be the issue. I pulled the whole computer out and am taking it back to the shop tomorrow.

I am about to shoot this game. I got all the computer components working again and the monitor stopped working again
