No Oil Based Paint In Md. Do Va Stores Still Stock It?

The last time I painted a cab it went really wrong with the latex. I hope somebody has oil based paint....

They did that in PA(and surrounding states) a few years ago.
You can buy oil in quarts(and they will sell you multiple) but it is much more expensive.
Try SherwinWilliams, the home centers really don't stock it anymore.

Yep correct you can get quarts at some specialty stores. Its not regular oil paint either. It's made for pipes, oil drums & stuff like that. Its supposed to be heavy duty and costs a fortune by the quart. You will not get a gallon of oil based anywhere in Md.

I was hoping that some of the guys in Va would chime in. I know Djdns paints the hell out of some cabs. I wonder what brand he uses and is it oil? I have no problem driving to Va for some.

Somebody shipping it to us guys who cannot get it would be very cool indeed. Also as i am sitting here my son now lives in Texas. Hell I could get him to ship it to me.

What brands do you guys by in Texas?

Thanks for the posts...

White, Red, and Black at Lowes and home depot. Are you going to spray it?
I get mine from sherwin williams but its kinda on the high side.

I don't have room for a compressor anymore. I wanted to buy one but now have arcade machines in the way. Hopefully a house is on the horizon soon.

Thanks for confirming that VA still has oil based paint. So do they sell it in gallons at H/d or lowes? Hell I would buy 5 gallon buckets of the black right now. lol

Sherman Williams sells oil paint. What color are you looking for? I bring home "surplus" SW paint from work quite often.
We have jobs where they order up to a couple thousand gallons at a time. The contractors usually dont bother taking leftovers with them.
Next time your over check out the paint on my QB. It was done with SW indutrial paint through a HVLP sprayer. Safety yellow looks great on a qbert!

This
Sherwin Williams does sell oil but its only by the quart at crazy prices.

Sorry Mike right now all I need is black for the nba and a mspac

My Sherwin Williams mixed oil for me. I ended up using marine grade oil because that was the only paint that had the base color I needed (sapphire sparkle - DK2). I think I still have 1/2 gallon of it left.

I'm getting ready to do a Space Invaders and I need to get the blue matched... I hope they still will be able to come through for me.

HomeDepot / Lowes does sell a few varieties of oil, but they never have the correct base to mix and can't order others(from what I've been told)

SherwinWilliams will sell by the quart (can't sell gallons) They tell you it is for metal / pipes because that is the reason they still sell any oil. Some things need oil so there were reasons why it was still allowed, expect them to be replaced by latex/etc as regulations tighten.
