Just heard about the end of gameroom magazine. This sucks for many reasons, one, because i have been a subscriber for several years and look forward to getting the magazine. I always enjoyed the articles, (i did read the magazine, i didnt just look at the pictures).

http://www.gameroommag.com/

Also, i hav ebeen preparing to write an article about a bunch of one of a kind items that i have came into, Items that will be available to the public for the first time ever (not any games, just literature that has never been seen) so this stuff is going to be very interesting and the way to let many see about it was to write up an article for GRM.

However, i am not happy about the fact that i just paid for my subscription a little over a month ago and wont be getting that refunded. The website says that everyone will be getting a cd of the past years, but honestly, that is not something i want. Exspecially when someone that only had one month of their subscription left will be getting the same things as myself that hasnt even recieved the first issue after paying for my subscription.

Im grateful that someone was able to publish a magazine like GRM, so dont take it that way. However, GRM was not a charity, so my donation to them was not willing. I paid a subscription for a magazine, so in essence, i invested in the company

I am glad I ordered when I did to get some issues I was missing. Sad to see them go, but was surprised they were still around to begin with. If anyone wants to start this up again, PM me and I will see what I can do on my end to print them where I work.

This sucks....I was a subscriber, and always looked forward to the magazine. Yesterday I found out the Allentown pinball show is cancelled after 17 years, and now Gameroom magazine folds today--sucks

Yeah, that sucks because I did just resubscribe for another year. But more importantly, we just lost an enjoyable magazine. I think the future was foreshadowed by the October issue. That was the thinnest magazine ever.

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn it! I just started getting this one months ago and liked it way better then one of the others out there!

This really sucks.. I love this mag.
Forget the economy, it shows you our hobby is shrinking... like what happened to EM collectors. Yes they are still out there, but 20 years ago, there were a lot more of them.

I am happy to get the CD, VERY VERY sad to see this go.
I wish Kevin the best of luck, and hope he stays around and active in the hobby. No shame in this... maybe we can get this back when things get better in the economy.

+1 to this.

I will say I'm more unhappy about the magazine no longer being published versus losing about $30 as I really looked forward to this magazine every month. If anyone does start up anything like this again, I would still jump on it.
And at least the CD will provide reading material for a while...

Sorry to hear. I was also bummed when ToyShop magazine shut down a few years back. It's sad to see these resources go away.

I am a technical writer by profession, and have been doing web editing and journalism-related work for over 10 years now in my "spare" time. If someone wants to put something together to keep the momentum going, I'd be happy to be on the team. I would just like to have 'some' type of payment for my time, even if it's game parts or something to that effect. But I'd love to be involved in something like this just to keep the tradition going.

Seems this forum/community alone could make enough contributions for a quarterly publication. I know I'd be willing to submit something here and there. Think of it like a car magazine, but not Mopar Action, but Mopar Collector's Guide, where it's more amateur, more articles about peoples' cars, less fancy, etc..

Did it really need to be monthly? The magazine was getting so thin, and given the costs associated with printing and postage, it seemed like maybe a quarterly magazine would have made better financial sense...

Very very sad to see this go. I was really looking forward to submitting photos and a story of my gameroom once it's 100% complete, which would have been very soon. :001_ssad:

I got nervous when the issues kept getting smaller and smaller. Then the big clue was when he started significantly discounting all his inventory. I know that print media is almost dead, but you think there would still be a market for a highly-specialized content area magazine.

Think he'll sell to anyone?

I need to get a copy of it... Supposedly a photo I took at an auction of a Robot Bowl was to be in it. That's a shame...

Wow, sorry to hear this. I was going to resubscribe for Xmas this year and see if I could get my redone gameroom back into the mag (it was a GROTM several years ago).

Sorry to see it go...

I wonder if Kevin will chime in on this thread??
Doubt it.
No offense to him, but what purpose would his posting here serve. I suppose he could explain his decision to discontinue it, but I would guess it would only foster more bad feelings about the situation.
But we already know that the magazine is dead, and he is offering an alternative to issuing everyone who ordered a refund. What more needs to be said?

I used to (key words there) subscribe to the magazine quite a few years ago, but left my subscription expire a year after Tim got out of it. The quality of the magazine seemed to have gone downhill and there was way too much of a focus on Mame stuff. It seemed that when Kevin took over, and his business was retroarcade.com, he really pushed a lot of that stuff in it. No thanks.

Honestly, this doesn't surprise me at all, but does surprise me that the magazine lasted this long. It would be great to see Tim pick it up again, but I know that will never happen.

Just my insight and opinion...

Bill

If you paid with a credit card, I suppose you could file a complaint with them to maybe get the money back.
