heard it was a massive waste of money ... a $60 "tech demo"

the concept sounds cool, but it sounds like it's merely flash and sizzle with no substance

Nothing but a mass world game with nothing to do just explore.. I'm waiting for it to be 20 bucks then I'll get it

I'm waiting for VR ps4 . I played the resident evil demo and I was totally blown away.. it was like being in the show the walking dead for real...

Ive not played it yet, but from what I understand is it's *just* an exploration game. There isn't any PVP and its not Call of Duty. Apparently some people were thinking that was the case and were sorely disappointed.

It looks really interesting but I don't have a PS4 or XBox One to play it and my computer is too old to run it so Im not gonna buy it.

I'd definitely like to check it out. Several people have stated that what you put into it is what you get out of it.

From what I hear this is the game for people who put tons of hours into the Starflight and Star Control games. It really does seem like a modern 3D version of Starflight.

I haven't played it either from what I've seen from interviews with the dev, footage and trailers. The game is focused around exploring, without any real story content in it all. Procedural generation is the main mechanic of the game. Yes, there might be 18 quintillion planets to explore... but the art asset library wasn't that massive (relative, to the unlimted size of the game). You will start seeing repetitive patterns much too soon.

Now, I'm not hating on procedural generation (PG). I think it's a great tool. When used right. It's a fairly new mechanic in the gaming industry, many titles fail when they don't use PG correctly and rely on it to heavily, instead of using it to enhance the experience. NMS (No mans sky)was unfortunately, one of those titles. The game had too big of a scope, for the amount of content a player can really get out of the game.

Players wouldn't of had as much of a problem if the devs had not made exploration (or rather exploring PG Plants and shipwrecks) the focus of the game. They should of only made it a bonus reward for exploring. Discovering new stories out of a seas of story's sounds nice, but impractical. There are heavy amounts of crafting in the game also. It doesn't feel rewarding to do any of that work, if there is no payoff for it. Players need a goal and a mission in mind. Not wandering endless space aimlessly. Better narrative would of helped. And would of kept players focus off of the negative aspects of repetitive PG.

I'd recommend the PC game SPACE ENGINEERS over NMS. No story in it either, but you get to build your own ship. It's great in multiplayer. It's like minecraft in space.

I might pickup NMS when the price is ridiculously lower. But by then, a better game might be out. :D

Been playing a week or so now, here's some observations:

The PC version is a direct port of the PS/4 version. There is NOTHING in this game that takes advantage of the flexibility of the PC. You can play it with a gamepad. When flying in your ship over the surface of a planet, you cannot smash into anything - no collisions. You don't run out of fuel either, so you can literally set yourself moving in a direction and come back in a day to see where you ended up.

One of the quests is to learn an alien language. You can visit relics of the alien race and pick up a word here or there, or you can meet them in an outpost and get them to give you a word at a time. What they did not do was put a limit to how many times you can ask the same guy to give you a word, and if you're in good with the race, 50% of your interactions will be them giving you the resource you need to get the next word. Wish I'd figured that one out on Hour 1.

I wish that Elite:Dangerous could have purchased the assets of this company to integrate the planet-side quests and animals/plants.

The ability to change the settings with the game files. Ability to use mods. Big difference compared to "nothing." Heck there is even a mod you can get to enable collisions... but I must say, I've managed to collide with things without using a mod. You just need to try harder. :p
