Hi, recently took off the backglass of my No Fear machine to check the lights when I noticed a solenoid up in the corner, after reading the manual I see that it's the knocker, but mines not plugged in and I don't see where it can be plugged in with it's short wire. Can anyone shed a little light on this?

My No Fear is the same. There's a knocker in the backbox, but it's not hooked up to anything, nor does there appear to be anywhere to connect it.. I seem to recall seeing somewhere that there's an output for a backbox knocker, but that it is not used in No Fear.. Perhaps the knockers were put in during assembly, but then left disconnected because the game doesn't support it? Not sure how that would make sense, but it is the only thing I could figure... I will have to dig and see where I saw that No Fear has No Knockers..

Am I the only one who hates knockers? (on pins that is).
To me they scare the buhjeezus out of me. Williams are freaking pants crappin loud and my Bally is tolerable. It's not like the game doesn't make an alternate sound during the game to let you know. And at the end of the game if you get a match it's not like you won't be watching the display. Do you really care as the machine is "Free play" anyway right? In fact when I get home tonight I'm going to disconnect all of the knockers.
Seriously - knock

To each his own, Deadly :) Yea, I know some people find them annoying, but some of us also enjoy them (admittedly except when they are too loud).

Ok, so here's what I found out.. I looked in a copy of the No Fear manual, and found that the violet/black wire coming from J130 on the driver board is for the knocker... I traced that wire down, and found that the connector for the knocker was attached to another cable that disappeared into the lower body.. Tracing that wire down led me to a mechanical coin counter....?

Anywho, I disconnected that cable, and connected it back to the knocker, and the knocker works just fine. I'm not sure if this output was meant to be a dual purpose for the knocker -or- the coin counter, or if someone just connected the coin counter to the wrong place.. Perhaps the coin counter is supposed to count the number of free games (since the knocker fires on free games, right?) Perhaps the counter is something an operator added in later.. who knows.. Anyone else have a No Fear with a mechanical counter? it is mounted in my machine to the cabinet body under the playfield on the left side.

I love that knocker sound-reminds of the good-ole days! Now the Stern knocker sound is a different story!

I also love the sound of the knocker, but I agree it does scare the shit out of me some times. It's hilarious watching new people play and when it knocks they almost shit their pants.

The best is when you get a high score and it gives the repetitive knocking sounds!
