Hi, I have a No Fear pinball machine and I think the solenoid that shoots the ball might have a problem. At the beginning and other times during the game it's supposed to shoot a ball into the skydive hole which leads to the subway ramp. However lately sometimes this happens and other times the ball bounces around on the edge and rolls back down. I've tried cleaning the pinballs and playfield of debris but this still persists. I believe it's the solenoid as it does go in some of the time but I'm not sure and don't want to buy another solenoid to put in until someone with more knowledge on this can help.

Check to make sure the solenoid is tight in the bracket, and that the sleeve that plunger rests in is not dirty. Check to make sure you have the right solenoid in the machine. It is very unlikely that the solenoid is bad.

An adjustment may be needed, but I assume that you did this prior to submitting this thread, if you haven't, check that. Switches can be finicky sometimes and always need adjusting. I dont mind if thats all a problem is as this is an easy fix. I would have to say NO on the "bad" solenoid. I'am starting to learn and find out that unless you see burnt marks and a low read on the MM then it's usually the coil "solenoid". You did mention it was still shooting the balls out, right? So it wouldn't be the Solenoid then. Solenoids last a long time. Try replacing the sleeve and adjust the ball trough switche(s). Report back on the outcome?

Well the ball does shoot out of the trough and the solenoid that is supposed to shoot it into the skydive shoots the ball, it's just sometimes the ball goes in and sometimes it doesn't.

Ok, well I tried cleaning out the plastic sleeve but the problem still pursists, any suggestions on how to clean it or what to clean it with? Should I just try replacing the sleeve?

I'd just get a new sleeve. Maybe the playfield isn't perfectly level or not set at the right angle. That can affect ball trajectory as well...

Also the coil may be hitting the ball off center...

Alright, do you know what size sleeve I should get? http://www.lakesidepinballparts.com/coilstops.html (bottom of page) Or if that sites not good where to get one. I don't think it's the coil hitting it off center as this is a fairly new problem but I will check the level of the playfield.
