I just scored a Vs. Super Mario Bros. I am admitting this is my first one
and was wondering what other games are good for this system.
I have not even opened her up yet.. what is it cartridge based (playchoice 10 style) or rom boards swaps (like Atari system 1)?
how much better are the games than on the playchoice? super mario bros looks identical to the nes..

I was just skimming John's most excellent site...

has anyone here ever converted a SMB to say... excitebike?

I am feeling lazy and will investigate more later.

I have a feeling I am gonna wanna swap roms to change games.

one more thing....

I did a sanyo EZV cap kit on my Mario Bros this afternoon. It had been awhile and I forgot how great the nintendo monitors look after a simple cap kit..

a thing of beauty... : )

Yes. It's easy, just be careful when swapping the ROMs.

It's much easier to just buy another motherboard with Excitebike roms in it then swap between boards.

Spaeth even made switcher kits so you could populate both "sides" of a single board and switch between them

Swap the roms and the marquee. Simple as that. Depending on the game, you may have to swap the PPU chip as well.

As mentioned, the rom pins are very fragile, so it's not recommended to keep swapping out roms. A lot of guys, including myself, use 1 PCB per rom set. That way you can just swap the PCBs out which is way easier than swapping the roms.

Think of it this way...
PCB:Cabinet
Cartridge:NES

:)

SMB is alright. I would go with Excitebike or Dr. Mario if it was me. What cabinet is it originally?

I am guessing what is currently in it "SMB", have not investigated further.. but I did pick up a Vs. Hogans Alley today as well.

I am about to check out spaeths vs switcher... anyone have the link?

web search time

I just bought a Vs. SMB recently as well, and I posted pics of the tags on the upper back, and members told me it was originally a DK. :)

...Easy way out. Just upload a pic on here, and someone will know.

My DK was originally a Popeye but was also DK3 and a VS. game along the way. It was already a DK when I got it but the serial tags tell the story.

I converted my SMB to a Playchoice 10. Now I have Super Mario in it (an easier version), plus much more. People say "turn it into Excitebike, turn it into Doctor Mario".... I say, do all that and more!

If its Excitebike you want, I would be glad to swap you mine for your SMB.
