I have 2 different tubular keys that open most of my Ninty locks. Recently, I tore down my R-Type and found out that the 2 locks take a completely different key, as I can't open either of them with either of the keys I have. They fit, but won't turn. Thank God I could get at them from the inside, cuz they woulda been a bitch to drill out. Now, I wanna reuse these, so how do I find the right key? Is the a serial number on the cam or tube that will let me know what key I need to seek out? Didn't Dokert run a bunch of these keys and locks or was I dreaming?

I'm interested in this info as well. I have the opposite problem- I have unlocked locks on my red tent and no keys. My youngest son insists on opening up the top. I'd like to get 2 correct keys, or 2 locks with keys or whatever to make them stay shut....

I'm not familiar with "Ninty". Did they make locks, or did they make video games?

The only company I remember offhand that used tubular locks was Nintendo. They typically had only the one key, which works across multiple games.

I have seen those barrel locks on lots of games though - a lot of OPs replaced the cheap locks that came with the game with a better, higher security sort of lock. Most OPs I've talked with would simply buy a large lot of high quality locks, all keyed alike, to use on the coin doors of all their games. That way, they don't need a huge ring of keys to go do collections. When the games get sold off, they usually keep the locks, but I've had some games with those still installed. If they're the hardened ones, they're almost impossible to drill, and the normal ones are drillable, but still a pain. I usually use a nail and a hammer to make a ding in the center of the cylinder, then drill straight in with a 1/4" bit. The ding is just to keep the drill centered when you start. Once you're through, you should be able to get the tumblers to fall out of the lock and force it open - then replace it with a normal lock.

The locks are already out, but I wanna reuse them. I have 2 keys for this style lock. They work on all of my other Ninty tube locks, but not these. Key fits, won't turn. These have a weird cam too, it's shaped like a boomerang and fits into a slot bracket.

I had a bunch of Nintendo K6510 (takigen) keys made, but they are all long gone. Any good locksmith can make you the keys that you need.
