I had finished this a month or two ago but never got around to posting. This is my first cabinet restoration.

Here's the end result of a long and tedious restoration (Particle board DK Jr. cabinet by the way...):

That is fucking AWESOME. The cabinet looks factory fresh. I would be happy as hell to have that in my home. Bravo! Dr. Mario is also totally underrated in my opinion and is extremely addicting. My wife loves it.

Also, is that sideart new? If so, where did you get it from?

Thanks! I agree, great head-to-head two player game.

Yes, that is reproduction side art. I got it from GameOnGrafix (http://www.gameongrafix.com/products/vs-unisystem-nintendo-sideart). This reproduction artwork is FANTASTIC! My jaw dropped when I unrolled this sideart onto my cabinet, quality is top notch.

Just curious on how you painted - spray or roller? Or did you use orange vinyl?

I primed and painted the cabinet using a soft sponge roller. The primer was oil based and the paint was Behr Semi-gloss exterior enamel (I would have done oil-based for orange but this being my first restore and that I couldn't find a place to mix oil-based paints it didn't matter). I had to do at least 3-4 coats of orange on each side. The exterior black was rolled, oil-based paint. The interior black was rolled at first but there were some noticeable brush marks and it didn't look nice. I sanded the interior down and sprayed semi-gloss black spray paint then sprayed a layer of polyurethane over that to prevent scratching.

Looks great btw!

Thanks! :D

Thanks for the info.

I'm still trying to decide whether I want to paint mine or go with the vinyl so it is always nice to see what everyone else is doing. I want to avoid spraying and yours turned out great the way you did it.

Thanks for the feedback!

When I got this cabinet the original Nintendo power supply was replaced with a standard switching power supply. The harness had been hacked up all over to work with the switching PSU. I didn't think it was worth hunting down an original Ninty PSU for a Vs. conversion so I made a break out board with connectors that matched the original specs. The small transformer above the break out board powers the +24v connection used to drive the coin counter.

Nice to see another Orange Unisystem! I love mine. I bought it in completely appalling shape, and brought it back to life. Mine came from a DK Jr. Cab, so I decided to go orange with it! It currently has Vs. Super Mario Bros. in it, which was what it came with.
