Please help me with my red tent. I am new to arcade games and electronics in general so please be patient with me. Let me start with what I am working with I have a VS red tent and 3 boards, 1 with excitebike on side 1 and top gun daughter board on side 2, 1 with baseball on both sides, and 1 with SMB on both sides. all board were working fine on both sides until about 3 weeks ago. Now excitebike on side 1 is a green screen but top gun on side 2 works fine, baseball is garbage on side 1 and white screen on side 2 which resets over and over for a couple minitues then solid screen on both, SMB has nothing but blank on both screens. Had three RP2A03 CPU's and was swithching between boards as needed. Thought maybee those went bad so ordered new from mikesarcade.com got 5 RP2A03H to put in and leave in. Put in new CPUs and same problems. Where do I start?

Thanks
Don

I'd start by checking out the voltages from the power supply.

Do you have a manual or anything to go by in those regards ?

Did you reseat the chips, and especially the daughter boards? I have had the symptoms you describe, and it is always the daughtercards not being pushed in all the way. With Baseball, I have noticed that the RP2A03 chips DO matter. Mine would work with a certain combination, but not with another. On my Tennis boards, I have 2RP2A03 CPU's in both main and sub. In order to use those same CPU's with baseball, I have to swap the main and sub CPU's, or it won't work. With SMB, are the chips on the main or sub side? Is it by itself on the motherboard, or is another romset on the other side?

I am not sure, but I don't think you can have SMB on both sides, can you? You need to download the SMB manual from Pete Reimen's PAR website.

Kevin - I checked voltages from power suply and all was good.

Phet - I downloaded the SMB manual and VS Dual manual. You were right about the SMB, can't be on the same board. I moved things around a little. I now have SMB on Side 1 and Top Gun daughter board on side 2. Still no video or audio on SMB and Top Gun is fine just a little shaking of the screen. Other board now has SMB on side 1 and Excitebike on side 2. No video on SMB and Excitebike is green screen that shakes and resets.

I think it's your CPUs or the CPU sockets. I have had all sorts of troubles with those CPUs working on some boards and not working on others. Once you get it working on a board, LEAVE IT ALONE!

I think you might have damaged your sockets from removing them so much plus the fact that those CPUs from Mike might be a bit flakey and finicky.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but I have really found lots of crazy things with all the boards, CPUs, PPus, ROM combinations.

Is it possible that the PPU (RP2C0x) is bad? SMB won't do anything at all, if it is.

Garbled screen can be several things, bad connection, bad video memory, bad PPU, bit-rot.. If you want to post some screen shots I could at least rule some of those out. I'm familiar with these chips because I've programmed some stuff for NES. If I knew what size EPROM to use I could probably write a simple test program.
