I know this is a dumb one, but I'll ask anyways. Picked up three Nintendo cabs that had been converted to the vs. system. Two are mains and one is a slave.
Now I got the one main going and pulled the cable out of the back and connected it to the slave —*success! SMB comes up in the slave, and I'm able to credit a game up, but the CP is dead as in I can't start the game. I did note a smaller, secondary connector coming from the slave, but I did not see a corresponding smaller cable from the main. So, is my main missing the secondary connector, or is something else going on?
Also, the additional main I got fires up. SMB comes up on screen and then every five seconds or so, there's a click and then it resets. Any ideas? I only turned it on to test and have done nothing else with it as of yet.
Finally. Was there a dedicated bezel for the vs. machines that will fit in the original Nintendo cabs? Mine are all Popeye and DK bezels that have been flipped around.

The way they work is, if they have 1 monitor, they're all 'mains' so any chips in the 'slave' side aren't being used. The second connector on the edge connector is where most of the controls plug into.

This is the connector(s) I was talking about. The one with the second plug is in the secondary unit.

I've never seen those in a Nintendo VS. cabinet before, maybe it's a creative way they ran some of the wiring? It's not part of the factory kit.

Basically, the first cabinet you're talking about, is it up and running, but resets every few seconds? Is that what these connectors are in?

These connectors are in all the machines - the one that's resetting and the one that isn't. I was curious if this was the factory set up, which it isn't.

I have NEVER seen those before! Wow. What an odd hack?

Like Matt said, VS. conversions had smoked plexi, dedicated Vs. cabs were glass.

I believe the second connector is for the controls, but until I can pull it out and examine it more closely I can't say for certain. In some ways it's a neat solution because it's easy to extend the length between machines - just add another cable As for the resetting on the smb, it's a chip issue. I did have it stabilized, then it starting resetting again.

Like typical on those, if you clean the chips and reinstall it that'll probably fix it... it may be a low voltage thing too, though.

Yeah, I've never seen those connectors, it must be something that an operator preferred to do. pretty crazy!

Generally Vs. cabinets aren't set up with wires going into an entire slave cabinet. I guess the operator wanted to save money by wiring the secondary portion of the Vs. board to another monitor and control panel (The slave cabinet) without buying an entirely new Vs. kit for another cabinet. Or he/she wanted to run Vs. Dualsystem games like Vs. Tennis, Wrecking Crew, etc...

Also make sure the voltage coming out of the power supply is stable. Especially the +5v line.

Another thing that happens a lot on Vs. Boards is Acid damage. Take a look around the battery holder and make sure there isn't any damage or corroded pins and sockets.

Thanks for the tip. I pulled the batteries when I reseatted the chips. I believe they were the original batteries —*they were banded in on the one board. There was a little acid damage, but nothing too bad.
