Nintendo Vs. PCB No Sound?

Anyone know what part of a Nintendo Vs. PCB produces sound? Is it one of the game roms or something else on the board?

I tested my other boards and they work fine. I haven't found any answers in any manuals. Help is very much appreciated.

I tested the CPU and it's fine. The socket looks fine as well. What are the amps on the board? Sounds like it's something I won't be able to fix. :(
 
No, I gambled on a cheap untested board that came with a complete Vs. Excitebike chipset. Finally got a ppu though. You're good John. Hehe. Sucks this board doesn't have sound though.
 
Depending on which side you're working on....I'd check the LM3900 first....5R or 5N.

What am I looking for? They both look okay to me. Nothing wrong with the solder points or the trace.

I would say your looking for a lm3900 chip to throw in there to see if it is your problem. Not all (hardly any) electronic problems show themselves visually. Unless an inexperienced person was working on it before, then visual inspection could show those problems. But for normal wear and tear failures, you will have to go with a logical culprit on the schematic (the lm3900) and replace it to see if it was your problem (unless you have someway of testing the problem component)
 
Don't mean to necro an old thread, but I couldn't find this info anywhere, (that and I can't read schematics), lol but this thread pops up when you search any form of "LM3900 Nintendo" in google so I figured it would be best to add it here...

My point is: the lower LM3900N located at N5 is for the RIGHT side game of the Vs. pcb. The upper LM3900N (at R5) is for the LEFT side game, (when looking at the board with the edge connector up). I know this because I recently had a board with a bad one and by trial of elimination I popped the lower one off and the back side of my tent stopped emitting (very poor, low) sound. replaced the chip with a new one and it was back to normal.

Also, I don't think it would hurt to socket these chips before replacing them, they kinda suck to remove, even with a proper desoldering gun.
 
Thanks, I totally forgot about this. I don't remember if I ever ended up fixing that board, but glad you confirmed and were able to figure yours out.
