Nintendo Vs HSS kits and why it wont work

Finally had a chance to sit down and make some progress on Balloon Fight (work has been nightmare lately). The High Score Save seems to be working fine and I have side one Free Play working (stays in attract mode when in free play or coin mode). Just need to finish the other side and I can post this. Won't be as slick as Matt's one eprom mod, it will likely be 4 or more eproms because the code is all over the place.

I still have not been able to get my PCB working so this is all MAME and will need a couple of people to try it out.

I will probably have something to try out tonight.
Not sure what is wrong with the PCB, just can't get it to run.
Could be the PPU, CPU, Jamma adapter... no idea

Happy to try it out no problem, what is wrong with PCB? Need something?

Same here. This is really great.

I am playing my SMB 3x more now that the HSS kit is installed. The Balloon Fight HSS/Freeplay kit will really lend itself to the dualsystem setup with only 5 score slots and simultaneous play. When playing competitively, do you want to continue or go for the high score. Will be a great dilemma

Thanks again

I'll be starting on Dr Mario soon (just got the daughtercard). But while I was waiting for that I did a freeplay for Vs Pinball. It's the Japanese version that uses the [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]RC2C03B PPU (same as Duck Hunt). If anyone is interested I'll post it for download. It's a single EPROM change. I didn't bother to look at high-score save for it, and probably won't. It also only works correctly on real hardware (it won't work on MAME because I used undocumented opcodes to pull it off).

Allright. Just trouble-shooted for 1.5 hours.

Batteries removed. Happens either side being Player A and Player B, makes no difference.

1) Player A plays and qualifies for HS table in a two player co-op game. Player A runs out of lives. Player A is asked to continue and does. Regardless of what level Player A ends on with his game over (and what level Player B is paused at), if player A continues game, both players restart at Level 1. The minute player A dies once the game freezes. Player A has blank screen dark which is locked out from controls and Player B sees "Insert coin to continue". If Player B hits player 1 or player 2 button they now get a single player game.

2) Player A plays and qualifies for HS table in a two player co-op game. Player B runs out of lives. Player B is asked to continue and does. Both sides reset back to attract.

Let me know what else you want to try...
