Nintendo Vs HSS kits and why it wont work

Im not super tech and all but arent all these chips the same. You can swap all vs. games off the main boards so wont the 6116 chip be the same across all games?

Yeah, so if you want a true score save that survives game swaps, then daughterboards that hold their own RAM need to be created.

True, except i know there are several people that change the boards out instead of changing the chipsets. John has about 15 deticated baords... :)

I am pretty sure there aren't any socketed chips on the VS board... well except the roms/cpu/ppu

so a couple of things...

1. The high score save mod for Balloon Fight is already done, it was not too difficult
2. This game is not very fun, am I missing something?
3. I will work on the free play with attract mod soon, please stand by

1. AWESOME
2. Huh? Balloon Fight ROCKS!
3. AWESOME

Damn... now I am going to have to go out and get another VS cab. I sold mine solely because it wouldn't save high scores...

Excitebike and Super Mario Bros are two EXTREMELY important games to get high score saving on. And excitebike will be a challange I think as it also has "times" to save for each track.

:)

If the games being swapped in and out use different addresses to store the HST it could be ok I suppose

So glad this is happening now... :D

It always works out that way though. Sell/trade something, and then something you waited your entire collecting life for comes to fruition.

Well, on behalf of the remaining (selfish) Vs. owners, thanks for taking the hit to get this ball rolling! :D

Balloon Fight is cool.

I think Super Mario Bros. is a must. Then after that, the rest are all personal favorites of everyone and that's gonna vary.

These comments from, John, mirror (to a tee) what we talked about, Souzilla. It seems that a HSS kit for Balloon Fight would please the masses. Then, everyone has a personal preference. For example, I'd choose Ice Climber. Great 2 player game with a cool attract mode.

If you need any boards to test out or other Vs games, just PM me again.

Sure, sounds good.
I have some ideas on saving the scores for several games for people that do not have multiple main boards and swap the roms around. Let me know if you want to discuss further.

OK, I'll take a crack at SMB since I have one. If you want me to test any of the other VS ones you write let me know.

This would be AWESOME...I would be in for a HSS/Freeplay kit for
Super Mario Brothers
ExciteBike
Goonies

This would be awesome. I would love to see this for Ice Climbers and SMB and would pay dearly for it.

I have dedicated mobos for all my games and am not worried about swap problems; in all honestly I don't know why anyone would swap out games. The hardware is just too unreliable for constant swapping.

Sadly, only a single picture remains of my best ice climber score. I worry that my best days of ice climbing are behind me...

Someone, please give me a reason to GET TO CLIMBIN'!

+1 On testing. Let me know if you need me to test, i've got a bunch of games and PCBs i switch in and out of a red tent.

Also need to know what ram i would need to change out and to what. I'll fire up the soldering iron :)

Looking for someone to test out the HSS mod for balloon fight before moving on to the free play. Anyone? Just a two rom swap but you need to replace the 6116 with nvram and it might not be socketed.

Would love an excitebike / dr. mario one. Excitebike being the most important.
