I have a VS board I just installed duckhunt on. The board is fully working and works fine with two other games. Duck hunt will boot and display on the screen but the sound gets stuck in a loop at bootup. I tried in my other working VS board with the same results. I also verified the roms and even burned a new set. This only leaves the PPU but will a bad ppu cause sound problems?

Well, swapped in the PPU from my SMB and the sound is fine. Of course the colors are wrong but it proves the duck hunt PPU is bad.

Good call, I did read about that in the gun manual but it never crossed my mind. Nope, have not hooked up the gun yet. Im working on making the harness right now. I think your right about this.
I wonder why it didnt happen with the other PPU. I did get it to boot without the sound one time out of about 30 tries. Well, let me get the gun hooked up and go from there.

Do you have a gun hooked up? It could be the gun alarm.

Yep, my bad! It was indeed the gun alarm I was hearing. It threw me off because it sounds like a game sound that is stuck.
Anyways, here is a pic of my homemade rig of a light gun. It works but needs some tweaking. Its got the accuracy of a worn out red ryder.

Can you explain how a normal NES works on this? I would like to give this a try.
