Nintendo Super System anybody? Contra 3? Burning roms?

I got a Nintendo Super System. http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8894

Here's a video review from ArcadeGreg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11eCcdMayP8

The games I have are Super Mario World, F-Zero, Adams Family and Super Tennis. I would be interested to know what you think of this cabinet... Because I know they arn't really well known and there's very little information about this.

My grail on this is Contra 3, which I couldn't find anywhere. Of course I would be willing to trade Adams Family or Super Tennis for it, or any other trade or buy, pm me if you have this game.

But I'm wondering if the rom of the game pcbs are interchangable then I could burn Contra 3 roms and use on my game pcb and just change the roms. Anybody knows anything about this?

Yes, you can burn the Contra 3 roms and put them on the appropriate pcb.

I think it was lilman573 who burned the roms for me a couple years ago.

Then next question is what SNES titles/roms can we use on Nintendo Super System pcbs? I'm hoping other Konami titles like Metal Warriors and Turtles in Time or Axelay could be used.

Yes indeed. But what game pcb can I use? Adams familiy? Super Tennis?

I used NCAA Basketball. Any game that uses the same type board as that will work. F-ZERO is the same type also I believe.

Ok. Do you know how I can find those roms though?

Like I said in my PM... it'd probably work with the Addams Family PCB. IIRC, Contra III uses battery backed SRAM though, so obviously using the Addams Family PCB with no battery or RAM you won't be able to save. Hopefully the game doesn't freak out without the RAM, though it's possible.

Can you burn your own rom chips?

No I can't. But I hear Hobby roms is pretty good. So should I send them the rom files? If so, where can I get those files?

Other than changing the roms, is there any other parts to change? Is there a way to get the right game name in the selection menu as far as you know?

You shouldn't need to change any other parts... and no, you can't get the right game name without the correct instruction EPROM and security chip. So I wouldn't bother ordering the instruction EPROM, because it won't work with the wrong security chip.

You should be able to find the ROMs anywhere you can find MAME ROMs.

Ok so I'm now waiting for the Contra 3 roms in the mail and I'll let you know once I have them in about two weeks if it works or not.

I got the roms and it's working! So yeah... good stuff. Now is there any scans of those mini marquees available?

Ok so, I couldn't find any marquees. I have no Contra 3 marquee and my F-zero is craked, and they're all very yellow too.

So I thought what the heck, I'll just change them all. I ended up editing SNES Box art to try to make it fit as best as possible. I did it for SMW, F-Zero and Contra 3. Only a little squeezing and streching for contra (not the logo though), F-Zero was missing part of the logo so nothing could be done there... and Super mario world, no major issue other than the original marquee has the title on one line only and the snes the "super" is on the frst line.

When you print it, make sure it prints at 17.3mm wide to fit perfectly (that include a little extra wiggle room). At 17.1mm it is exact, maybe a little too much.

Ho yeah and I should mention, no instructions. But hey, I'm sure you know how to play.

So... here it is. And if you find a better file host, don't be shy and post a new link. Don't click the blue button but the grey one. The blue one is a scam I think...

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, what are the possibilities of reprogramming the roms to play standard SNES games? It seems from the thread that its possible to reprogram a cart to play another carts game, however, id quite like the idea of playing say Mario Kart on my Super System, or even something like ghouls and ghosts, obviously something like Kirby or Stunt Race FX would be out of the question with their proprietary chips.
So, is it possible?

Oh, and also, if you were to reprogram a couple of boards and reprogram the instruction chip, can the security chip be reprogrammed too? Is that possible?

Ghouls and Ghosts is possible. You should be able to do most Lo-ROM games on the NSS. 8meg bits is the max ROM size NSS can handle.

And Mario Kart wouldn't work because it uses the DSP chip. Google which SNES games use Hi-ROM and which use Lo-ROM and take it from there.

I think the instruction chip can be burned. Not sure about the security chip. I'm sure someone who knows more will chime in.

So, would the instruction chip need to match the security chip? I.e. If we could reprogram with a snes game would you need to match the instruction to the original security, as in keep the instructions as say, NCAA as with the security?
