Nintendo Stack-Up for $45,000 anyone?

Sealed ones do pop up from time to time. I think that the last time I saw this one sealed, it went for around $750.

I'm all for collecting sealed games, on two occasions. One, I have one opened already to play (or I can emulate it easily... not the case in stack up) or two, I have absolutely no interest in playing it

$45k for a nes game that may or may not be factory sealed? No thanks.....ever. I briefly dabbled in collecting sealed nes games. It's a pain. You have to treat every game like you're diffusing a bomb lest you possibly damage the box or tear the shrinkwrap, then 95% of the value of your game gets thrown out the window.

Yeah, I have a handful of CIB used games and that's good enough for me. I could care less for collectible value. If all of it is in decent condition, I'm happy.

Though, I have picked up a few that were opened but look like they were never touched (Duck Tales, Little Nemo and Chip N Dales Rescue Rangers). Like brand new. No corner wear or anything. They were just random ebay buys that were listed as used and good condition. Sometimes you get lucky I guess.

When I was a kid, someone bought me a copy of Final Fantasy on NES. Later, I got another copy from someone else and left it sealed for a long time. When I traded away my NES and most of my games, that one went with it. I probably got the equivalent of $5 for it at FuncoLand at the time :(

I don't really get the whole collecting sealed, or even boxed, stuff. I never buy stuff like that cause it's always way overpriced and I would want to open it anyway. The way I look at it is this. If the price for a boxed version of something is more than double the price of an unboxed version, you are paying more for the box than the item itself. That's just stupid to me.

That CL posting is crazy.

I could not care less about collecting shrinkwrapped 'sealed' games for old systems (although I do care about getting sealed games when I buy them new at the games store). I play the games in my collection, they don't stay sealed. Definitely not worth the premium. As long as the contents are complete and in good condition, I'm happy. If the original polybags are there, I'm even happier.

I've heard of people getting burned with nice condition games being re-sealed and sold as original factory sealed. Seems like yet another tempting way to rip people off.

And how do you know there isn't an Atari Combat cartridge in there without removing the seal?

I have heard of serious collectors who have bought sealed Tamiya RC kits getting them X-rayed to check the contents are correct. The funny thing is that the Tamiya kits were never factory shrinkwrapped, if they were shrinkwrapped, it was done by the distributor or hobby shop. But shrinkwrap is still desirable because it means the box is less likely to be scuffed or marked.
