So, I've been trying to test these 1801's, but I had a bad yoke. i found what I think is a 2001 yoke (part of the label is missing but it ends in CE just like the 1801 yoke), but when i hooked it up I first got flyback buzzing (new flyback) and a distorted pic. Then I got no pic, no flyback buzzing, but some of those little things on the neckboard would light up and buzz. Plus, the B_ would drop in half with this yoke plugged in. Apparently it will not work.

So, I have another yoke from a different monitor that gives me almost the same reading as the 1801 yoke. i put it on an get a perfect picture (although flipped horizontally for some reason even though the yoke connector hasn't been changed). YEAH! uh-oh. After about 10 minutes of running, suddenly the flyback starts buzzing and the picture shrinks and gets all distorted. If I leave it off for a while so it cools down, it will come back up as fine for a while then repeat. I noticed the B+ was up around 145 at this time. I need to turn the pot all the way down to see if it helps or not.

I'm going to install a cap kit, but I was wondering if there is a problem with these chassis that can cause this issue, or if the problem is still with the yoke load?

For the record, the original 1801 yoke and the other one I am using have these readings:

H - 5.5
V - 15.5

What I think is a 2001 yoke has these readings:

H - 2.3
V - 15.5

If anyone has a good monitor of either of these (1801 or 2001) and can compare the readings, let me know...

BUMP!!! You don't even need to unplug the yoke connector. Just measure it at the tabs on the yoke. Open up the back, two quick measurements (write them down or remember), and close it back up. 5 minutes tops!

Do you know how to use a meter? Set it to OHMS 200, and then measure the two sets of outer lugs on the top of the yoke. The two closest to you have some heatshrink over them but you can get your leads there and measure the horizontal. Then the two outer lugs in the back (not the one in the middle) will be for the vertical. If you do this, make sure you let me know which monitor you are testing...

That's pretty damn close to what I have already. Do you have a 2001?

Figured out the chattering flyback was due to a bad I701 power regulator.

Also, the newer Vision Pro yoke will work with both the 1801 and 2001 as a replacement if you have to have one. Considering some people throw these new VP's away when they die rather than try to fix them, it's worth noting to save the yoke...

BTW - here's a video of the repaired chassis working with the Vision Pro yoke. Scan lines are only visible to the camera, not to the naked eye...

Awesome!

Now who has a bunch of VP yokes to sell?
