Hello, I am a rather newbie here, and have a question.. I am trying to line my garage with dedicated nintendo cabinets.. I have Dk, dkjr, popeye, and dk3 so far, and found an RTYPE online, and was wondering if you line up RTYPE next to these other games I have, does the cabinet have the exact same dimensions?? From the pics, it looks close, but I think it's slightly different too.. Can someone for sure let me know, as I only want to buy it if it's exactly the same cabinet.

well, i want a for sure answer.. if you line up an RTYPE next to a dkjr dedicated game, does the RTYPE cabinet look at all different?? if so, I am not interested in the game.. Even the slightest difference in cabinet style totally blows the deal.. So, I need a for sure answer.. I know someone here knows..

Yes, it looks different. It's not the same profile. It's the same as a PC-10 single or a Nintendo Vs. Single dedicated. I have convinced myself a R-Type is not worthy of a Ninty row. But, that's just because I haven't found one. :)

According to GGDB.org...

Dimensions for R-Type:
Height Width Depth
68.50" 24.00" 32.50"

Dimensions for Donkey Kong or similar:
Height Width Depth
67.00" 23.50" 33.50

Definitely not the same.

no, width-wise it's barely wider than a DK-style cab (MB is what, 2 inches wider?)

overall the look is similar but the cut of the cabinet sides around the monitor and the placement of the speaker above the monitor (instead of below the CP) are fairly significant differences.

i can appreciate wanting them in all the same cabinet but i would get it anyway as if you are true to your word on getting nintendo titles you are going to want a mario widebody and a punch out before long anyway.

DOES anyone actually have an RTYPE next to another nintendo cabinet like DKJR?? Can someone post a picture of how it looks next to it?? Just want to see how different it actually looks... Thanks.

I'm going to throw the bullshit flag on this entire thread. There is absolutely no way that there's anybody alive who's so anal retentive that they won't buy a dedicated Nintendo cabinet because they changed the style after DK3.

Was thinking the same thing. R-Type is such a kick ass classic game, if you're not interested because it's not _exactly_ the same cabinet profile as the others then I have to wonder what your motivations are for this hobby. Might want to consider collecting butterflies instead, they're cheaper

If you're looking for dedicated games that use the DK style cabinet, you're stuck to:

Radarscope
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr
Donkey Kong 3
Popeye

That is it... 5 games total. You could make a dedicated Donkey Kong II in the same cabinet making it 6... but anything else would be considered a conversion. Even a VS Unisystem is a conversion... but an accepted conversion.

Mario Bros looks fine as the DK cab as well.

I merely posted the differing dimensions as an observation. My gameroom and most others are filled with cabinets of inequal sizes. I do have an Atari and Nintendo row, but then I have Segas next to a Williams next to a Konami. I mean really, who wants an arcade where everything looks the same. Thats boring. Need some different eyecandy in the room.

There are also VS uni system conversions that look ok, and even a playchoice 10 conversion that looks ok. Not dedicated games, but acceptable conversions.

I'm just curious. sorry if its stupid. But why do they all have to be the same? (this is from a guy who doesn't have any nintendo arcade games)

As the proprietor of John's Arcade - "Home of the Ninty Row", I have found an easy way to overcome this dilemma. You separate the two types of cabinet.

You have a row of DK style cabinets then a row of MB, Punch-Out, PC-10 type cabinets. The newer cabinets line up perfectly with Punch-Out and MB wide.
