Nintendo releasing new NES

I never owned an NES... why would I bother owning the "TV game" version of it now? What makes this unit any better than those "games in a joystick" you plug in to a TV? I guess the HDMI connector is one plus vs the Game-in-a-joystick units...

Why would they do that? The point is to sell them and turn as much profit as possible.

It's the current state of the disease in the Console Collectors . Everyone likes to speculate on what will be easy to flip or hoard and resell. Nintendo items are usually high on the speculators list. This isn't going to be a limited release, but it won't stop flippers from buying them all up, saying they are limited release, then try to flip them.

Do you think this will hurt the value of real nes's? My guess is no because of the non existent cartridge port.

Doubt it... it's a gimmick. A toy. For about twice that amount you could build a box that will play EVERY Nintendo game...

I have my old NES and some of those games still.. the Mario ones, G&G for sure. What's appealing to me about this is that the list of games is most of the ones I'd actually want to sit and play again.

I think its gonna get kids to beg their parents to buy them a real nes because it is a gimmick. Possibly increasing value

I think you've got MAYBE a hope and a prayer that would happen. Kids now-a-days will look at NES graphics/audio and laugh. I hooked up a Sega "controller game" for my nephew/niece a couple years back (they were 15 at the time). That kept them busy for all of about 10 minutes.

Wish this had an SD card slot on it like the rip-off Chinese Genesis I bought. Having HDMI out and being able to dump ROMS on this would be incredible.

I'm guessing Nintendo is hoping to fart out a new one of these every year with a different batch of games on it.

That's why you should get a Retro Freak console, which is what you describe. Plus that will let you play SNES, Genesis, master system, PC engine and gameboy too. It also has decent upscaling/scanlines, which I doubt this will have.

Thanks! I was aware of the Retron 5, but not this one. I don't follow the console stuff too closely. Do you have one?

Yep sure do and I love it. Updating the firmware was a little frustrating, but once I was able to it's been fantastic. I am actually toying with selling off my original NES hardware and games since the RF looks and runs so well.

Awesome, thanks man! I had my original NES, SNES and Genesis out, but just packed them back up since they'd collect dust for 2 weeks between games. Maybe I'll snag one of these, its perfect.

You have to use your hands? That's like a baby's toy!

They won't do that. It would kill their virtual console, which I think this thing is only to boost vc sales to get people hyped and use the nes controller.
