I had acquired this red tent via craigslist which someone gave away for free and I dont mind entertain project and hunting for a parts. I am pretty sure some KLOVERS would love to help to save this. I am not here and worry about the pricing. I want this to be alive once again either straight up or being mutant! That would be up to timing and me! =) I def want it to be straight up into Vs. Games!!!...

This is bare naked but has

1. Legs w bolts
2. Control panel Overlay unpopulated and no screws attached to the frame
3. Monitor Door

I would need

1. 2x Coin Door/Box.. (box not prority but door does. COMBOS would be nice)
2. 2x Monitor (13") Sanyo 13" would be cool
3. 2x Clear and Smoke plate for monitor overlay
4. 1x Power supply/Transformer
5. 1x Dual Vs Harness
6. Gameboard (does it need two gameboard or just one?)
7. Of course Decals blah blah comes along with the gameboard.
8. Joystick/Buttons that I do have spares which I could handle with.
9. Not sure if Red Tent need a monitor bracket or it s built in frame?(havent inspect red tent much yet)

LMK if anybody would like to help and donate or charge for outrageous like I was noob to buy DK Cocktail 1st player CP for $90- shipped. Yes got fooled by one of Klov! =( But nice of someone else that sold me nicer ones both player CP for $80 shippped!...

Anyway it s give and take that I am living in this world and still enjoys em! =)

Yeah, those were posted on CL for a while. It would have been sad to see them go in the dumpster, but they are what they are...good for parts.

Unfortunately, it will be extremely expensive and difficult to find all of those parts. Kerri is trying to get repro coin boxes made, but is having a bit of trouble with it. Monitors will most likely run you $120+ each if you can even find them. The monitor bezels are actually two layered (clear glass and smoked plexi) plus the paper bezel that goes on the inside. We all know how hard the colored buttons are to come by. Altogether, you'd be looking to spend probably close to $400+ on just those parts. Plus, however much you need to pay for anything else needed to get it up and running.

You probably have a better and more affordable chance finding a complete red tent. But best of luck to you, Will.

yes im aware and i saw someone selling red tent complete for $200 at fremont while ago and it s long gone! All im asking if anybody has junk and it s sitting and want to get rid of . I ll try to restore it!..

BTW I dont mind trade dig dug whole cabinets to get parts i need on red tent! I liked red tent compared to cocktail in garage cuz it s solid and stronger

I understand what you're saying, but if someone has usable red tent parts, it's not considered junk. All of those parts are going to cost you. It would be different if you were trying to find DK parts or something else common. But red tent parts are rare and pricey as mentioned.

Not trying to rain on your parade. Just telling you like it is. Best of luck restoring it though. That would be quite a save.

And as Patchboston said, this should be in the WTB section. You'll probably get more guys willing to help there.

of course it s not bad junk. Yes it s good junk and that s why theyre saving em up! =) Wish me good luck .. (posted in WTB instead). Admin can remove this or leave it be!

I remember when I first started collecting back over a decade ago, and saw someone post a picture of a "red tent". It was a machine I had remembered playing back in the day (in a bar, I think). I also remember thinking that parts would be hard to find.

And then the collecting community chimed in: man, that's ugly. $100? $80? Okay - first $50 gets it. I think I even remember one going for $25, working.

How times change. Personally, I like them.

Damn pennies had became dollars nowaday!

It's a great system.

And it's really not too difficult to find the colored buttons. I posted a WTB thread and had all of the ones I needed in about a week or so. And, super cheap, some free after shipping)

the screws for the CP are M4 pan heads (I just picked up a few) and I think they're about 1/2"

I used #8 washers, and they fit the screws pretty well.

They may not be the fancy finish of the other screws, but they work.

Here's a few shots of mine. Yes it has some rust, but I'm working on that.

The last shot is of the side opposite the board (uses one board) and it shows the ISO brick

I spoke with a guy once who said he threw away 8 of these. :(

Doesn't surprise me at all. There really was a time when people were having difficulty getting any money for them.

Even if you thought it was ugly, though, you could pretty much assume the build & parts to be quality Nintendo stuff. So, I do believe they were undervalued then.

I calucated and Its crazy to restore.

1. $30-50 each 2x Coin Door/Box.. (box not prority but door does. COMBOS would be nice)
2. $120-150 each 2x Monitor (13") Sanyo 13" would be cool
3. $35-60 for both hopefully 2x Clear and Smoke plate for monitor overlay
4. $30-50 1x Power supply/Transformer
5. $40-50 1x Dual Vs Harness
6. $100-150 Gameboard (does it need two gameboard or just one?)
8. $50 for everything if im lucky ---Joystick/Buttons

It would take me around $500-750 to restore it. IM gonna pass this up to someone who want it to trade or offers. Or. Ill make it cat house! and it would bad ass compared to Starwars cushion chair!

I don't want to say "I told you so," but I told you so. :D

Ironically, I actually have an extra set of glass, the tinted glass, metal/paper bezel assemblies, coin mechs, coin bezels, coin faceplate/ mounting assemblies, CP's and a full harness. I had the shell, legs and and hoods too, but finally threw those out.

I remember when the Red Tent wasn't valued nearly as much too. Something happened in the last few years and part of it might be people of my age group that grew up with the NES are collecting games now. I think we can also credit blkdog for all the info he compiled and shared on the system. I have to admit when I saw all his stuff about his red tent it made me want to get one. :D

I will say the only thing I don't like about mine is working on the monitors. I had one monitor's yoke crap out on me and it's a pain in the ass to get the chassis removed to work on them. I plan to rebuild both monitors (cap kits and flybacks) at some point and I'm glad flybacks are available now.

Agreed.

I think this is a big part of the reason it's been hyped up the last couple of years. I was in the same boat. As a Nintendo fan boy who grew up playing Nintendo, seeing John's rundown of the red tent made me want to get one really bad. Thanks a lot man!

It wasn't until I had one for a while that I realized it takes up a lot of space and I didn't want it as much as I had thought. It's in good hands now though. :)

Wonderfully. That s really helpful! =)

Re: My Nintendo Red Tent

Hi, I am new to this site...I have very little knowledge of the arcade coin op consoles...but thanks to Sconfu, a Member here on this site, I at least now know what to call my game unit...A NINTENDO RED TENT...thanks so much Sconfu! Anyway, I have had it for many years...it works absolutely perfect...I would say it is in excellent condition...it does have a small area of paint loss on the top of the cabinet...a small area, some of the red paint has just recently flaked off...not sure why...I have always taken exceptional care of the unit. The only other thing that I am aware that is wrong is on one of the sides, where it has four buttons, I believe it is the yellow button, the fourth one that is missing, always has been for as long as I have owned the game unit...and that has been a lot of years! It currently has Dr. Mario Pill Game on one side...and Excitabike in the opposing side. Both sides play great...audio & video...I also have several other game chips...just exactly what the games are...I'm unsure, but there are several additional games chips!
I am relocating out of state, so have reluctantly decided to sell the unit. I would not even consider selling, but because my move is via a commercial transporter...nearly 1,000 miles...and at some point I will have absolutely no control over how the unit is handled, I sadly am letting it go. I have absolutely no idea what the value is. If anyone can give some sort of a $ figure as to its value, I'd certainly appreciate it! I can post pics if anyone is interested. My [email protected]
Thanks!
