Has anyone solved the problem with getting offset T-molding. It looked like John Blkdog got some for his Mario WB but I don't know to find this new for my MB restoration.

Do some of the Wide bodies have offset and some have a symmetric centered barbed center?

don't think it just applies to wide bodies but I'm pretty sure some nintendo cabs have offset T molding grooves and others do not. Don't think anyone has ever made a replacement for this but I know it would be possible to pay someone to make it. Initial investment would likely be big but with so many nintendo cabs out there I think it would sell pretty good actually. Not sure why no one has made it yet.

I have a Orange cab that is a Mario Bros. which has offset type. I replaced the t-molding with regular white 9/16" (non-flat) which I then just had to carefully slice away one side (exterior) with an flat type blade (carefully not eating into the side of the orange painted wood).

I never saw offset type for sale either.

My Mario Wide body has centered T-molding . I thought only some DK's had the off set ? Thats lame they did this .

yeah my DK is center, and my Mario is offset
That's alot of bondo to re-groove that crap.

I stopped into Harbor Freight today and they had a nice flush trim laminate/edging bit & holder on clearance for $1 buck. It actually rang up .72 cents!

It's a hand held tool that has a U shaped blade at the right angle to flush trim that bonded on edging like you'd use for wood working. It works great on t-molding to get a nice even flush edge. Just order the wider white molding, and trim the excess along one side.

The item number is 97937, I just checked and it's not available online, probably limited to what's in stock locally.

On the standard cabinets. Made in Japan cabinets had centered T-moulding and Made in USA cabinets had the offset.

I don't think that's correct. Pretty sure it was the cheap particle board cab's that had offset t-molding, the plywood ones had regular centered.

For the sake of arguement, people have found distributers for the right kind of offset t-molding, but it only comes in black.

It's true that the Japanese cabs are plywood and had centered T-Molding... the USA cabs were made of particle board and had offset T-Molding. I've had both. I prefer the lighter Japanese plywood cabs.

Anyone ever find a great replacement or method for trimming the T-molding?
just picked up a Mario WB and looks like i have the off set one.

I had a particle board DK cabinet that had CENTERED t-molding. So, that theory is shot. :)

My Mario Bros. wide also had CENTERED T-molding. So, yeah...

+1 I wonder why they used offset, never really made sense to me.

It's the same reason why they had the audio and video inverter on the monitor, why they use tri-wing screws on all their products, whey they used mini-DVD's for the GameCube, and why they were the first to change the joystick plug with their NES system: they want to make sure that they have control of where you can get replacements and repairs from.

Nintendo has always been that way. Even with the Game & Watch handhelds, they *have* to be different.

T-molding

It sure would be nice if we could get t-molding.com to make some offset stuff. It seems like this thread keeps coming up again and again. I'd like to fix my PC 10 dual. Anyone got a contact there?

Daveia said he could actually make the extruder template if someone sent him a sample of the Nintendo T-Molding. But he did not ellaborate and I have to think he won't do it free.

BTW, he is the one that did the wide repro T-Molding for the StarWars Cockpit.

Perhaps we can get a project going with him if we all chip in for initial costs. I am sure there would be a demand for exact replacement Nintendo t-molding.

Daveia lives here in California and I could send him an original sample so he could begin mocking up the extrusion mold with his 3D redering program. Then he could probably use the same vendor as he did for the SW Cockpit.

cost

have him get back to us with a cost for an entire cab. usually you get 10-12 feet when ordering... If it's under $20 that would be great!

Isn't the dual cabinet plywood like Punch-Out and with centered t-molding???

If we can get Dave to do this, I think it should be for the centered T-molding as that's the most common. The people with the off-centered t-molding cabs (I have one) can just fill it the groove in with bondo and re-route the channel, IMO.
