Putting together a Popeye in a cab that was converted (completely) to a Ring King and Korean monitor. The monitor is dead so might try and find a chassis that will work, but I also have 2 NOS G07's. This is only my second Nintendo, so I don't read many of the ninty threads but from what I have read, people always seem to be stressing about having the proper Nintendo Monitor (Sanyo?).. and I'm not sure if its for originality or for some other reason to do with the signal.
So my question is, can a G07 or any other monitor be dropped into a Nintendo?

Not without some hacking. Nintendo games output inverted video signals. Not only that, but the isolation transformer in the original cabinet is 100v. So, in order to use a normal monitor (like a G07), you need to use a standard isolation transformer, and add a video inverter board to fix the color signals.

Basically, if you hook a Nintendo game up to a normal monitor (or vice versa), you get a negative image. The signals are completely inverted - i.e. a +5v on a color line turns that gun off, instead of full on, and 0v turns the gun full on instead of off.

BTW: NOS G07's?! That's awesome! Where'd you manage to score those?

On a Canadian arcade game site.. 280$ for the pair..which is a steal, except he couldn't ship which means I have to send out 2 empty vision pro boxes @90$, then ship them back @90$... so 460$ total which is probably still less than what a pair of Betsons would run landed.. Anyways, the guy got them as part of a package deal and he didn't need/want them. I couldn't believe me eyes when I saw the post.. and it was a few weeks old with just a couple tire kickers.. really lucked out on that one!

Guy from BC? I think i saw that ad and asked him about shipping as well, but he said pickup only.

No, Toronto... Ya I hapened to be lucky and was still tripping over a pair of VP boxes that I used for storing a couple 6100 vectors... so I could get him something he could ship with.. I just cannot believe in a city as big as TO that there are not more collectors and these were not snapped up in 2 minutes.

What about the 100v iso transformer? Do you have a link to an inverter? Would the signal be degraded in any way? I'm getting a Sanyo non-working chassis/yoke with the kit so I can use the tube from the non-working Korea A-One thats in the machine with the Sanyo chassis... but have to go thru converging..etc. Wouldn't mind something more drop-in..

You'll have to adapt the connectors and such and also run 12-16vDC to power it.
The Sanyos have odd connectors compared to everything else. (the video cable)

He'd also need a sound amp. Just find a Sanyo 20ez. I know it's easier said than done but it will make your life a lot easier.

Actually, this is starting to come back to me.. I remember when I traded a DOT for a restored DK, the ufo sound in the background absolutely drove me nuts and I recall removing a small board on the back of the monitor to try and get rid of that noise by moving it further from the monitor..etc.... ya.. think its probably better to get a Sanyo going in it.

The G07 will not mount properly either... the Nintendo cab / mounting brackets are designed for that EZ frame. I took an old EZ frame and re mounted my new tube and chassis into it.

The 100v iso is not a factor, as it will work fine.

Yeah, either an original Sanyo/Sharp Inverter board or http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=NININVAMP

If you go with the one from Mike's Arcade, it has everything you need including a sound amp.
