I have two issues.

1. The wood piece that holds the bezel bracket is peeling. Does anyone have a suggestion on fixing this?

2. The blue buttons have cigarette burn and are faded. Any ideas on fixing these? I sanded and polished them and they did not get better. I also cannot get the color fade removed. Any idea on improving this too?

On the buttons, Mike's arcade sells spot on reproduction buttons, there are a lot of other Nintendo bits he carries too.

I know someone was selling a laminate kit at one point, but I can't remember.

Yeah, that cross bar bit is kinda beaten up. I've always spray bombed ones in the past. The one nice thing to nite is that on some(SOME) cabs that part pops right off after you remove a couple screws and fight with some 30 year old glue.

When you do paint it, maybe opt to mask off the channel that the bezel sits in as shown in my picture below. for some of them the fit for the metal bracket that fits inside (holding the bezel) is already a tight squeeze.

Here's some more info/installation on the buttons from Mike...

Thanks for the info. I was guessing I should try and remove it and gives it a good cleaning / paint job. I really wanted to keep the original laminate or something close, but I don't think that will happen.

As for the buttons, it sounds like Mike's is the way to go.

A friend of mine hooked me up with a piece of vinyl. It actually turned out pretty nice.
