Nintendo has officially discontinued the NES Classic Edition

They weren't getting the big royalties because the games would be pirated on the day they were released and would be posted all over the internet on the next day after that.

Sales were neutered, right at the ball sack! :)

Have you ever tried downloading a 700 meg disk image over dial-up?

Dreamcast was an underappreciated and awesome little system. I still enjoy playing it to this day.

Back to the topic at hand, I went to the Nintendo Store in Rockefeller Center this morning at 9am (when the store opens) and the line outside was at least 60 people deep. Walked away empty handed. Some people were there since 6:30am. No thanks, I have a wife, a two year old and a full time job. :D For those living in NYC, the store gets shipments everyday, yes, everyday. They were reluctant to say how many, but more than 30 was their answer. They also don't know when they will stop receiving shipments. If I could get there earlier I would, but I can't, so I won't. If any of you call Manhattan home you have a legit shot.

The bootlegs were big on college campuses back then. I don't think my school realized it at all, but one pop up stand was selling legit bootlegs of DC games right there in the middle of the student center. It wasn't until me and my friends discovered Google and LimeWire that we realized we could just download them ourselves. T1 speed on campus, very fast. :)

I refused to waste my money on one of these retail and picked up an everdrive.

Actually yes. I was a bit of an "enthusiast" back at that time, I had something called a shotgun modem, I was able to get around 112k.

I had every single dreamcast bootleg in my collection too.

TWO FYI's... 1) rarely did they get as large as 700MB. Just because the disc is that big doesn't mean the data takes all that space and 2) you never had to download in 700MB chunks....everything was split nicely into small rars and you assembled them when you had them all.

Also, DSL was around in '98, at least around here. I had a "Hotline" server running on my powermac almost every night. Good times...

The only possible answer is...everything!

Everdrive. That was my answer a long time ago when I wanted to play 4 score games (4 score added players 3 and 4).

Why the 3/4player games are so expensive, I don't understand. But for the price of bomberman 2 and rc pro am 2, the ever drive saved me like $50.

Due to my Everdrive, I only ever had mild interest in one of these.

I had never heard of everdrive prior to the launch of the classic. I had a flash cart for my GBA, but it was a pain to use. When I couldn't find a classic to buy, I started researching options, and thought the everdrive looked great. I bought NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis systems, and an everdrive for each. It was about 15x the price of a classic, but I am really happy with it.

AOL had to send me the seven 5 1/4" disc set to get me online LOL I would put a disk in before I went to bed and hope there wasn't an error.

Yup, I had a sweet 640/272kbps ADSL into my apartment in '99, plus had a machine in my work's colocation space, which I think had a 3mbps DS1C.

No Dreamcast, but I had a PSX with a modchip & downloaded tons of games for it. Had a big binder with over 300 discs of PSX games. Lots of VCD/SVCD rips, too.

i didn't pick up a Dreamcast until Sega stopped making them, but hells yeah i burned a bunch of pirated game discs

even changed out the God awful soundtrack for MvC2 with a buncha tracks from Aphex Twin, Juno Reactor, The Crystal Method, etc :)

...and to think........ Pirated software is what made the Commodore 64 the most popular home computer of all time.

There was a problem with pirated dreamcast games, right? GD-Roms held twice as much data as a CD-Rom? Therefore folks who ripped the games had to remove video (cutscenes, intros, etc.) causing the resulting .iso's to not be the full games.
Arrh matey, the life of a pirate.
Yeah Iggy, I remember those 8-bit days. Had an atari though, not a c64. 1050 disk drive with a US doubler chip.

well if fox news says so it must be true.

They told my mom that terrorists are out to get her also so she doesnt leave her house anymore.

I hate Fox as much as the next guy but as long as it's not political crap, you can usually trust the tech, sports and entertainment portions.
