What kind of hardware originally went in the top marqee bracket for the early 80s Nintendo cabs (DK, Popeye, Mario)? Was it phillips screws, flat screws, hex screws, etc.?

It was phillips screws. Brass like the ones inside the cabinet but a little beefer. At least that's how the majority of my 5 Ninty cabs are.

Good luck.

Does this look right? This is an original Nintendo wood screw, I just don't know if it's the right one for the upper marquee bracket.

I think the photo show the correct screw. I've got 2 nintendo cabs and they both use that type of screw to hold in the upper marquee retainer.

I only have a "newer" DK, and my marquee screws look like that, but are painted black. They were also previously covered in a nice gelatenous beer-based compound - I removed this feature.
