Nintendo Flat T-molding Reproduction... Question before proceeding.

I have a unknown company lined up to get me pricing on the reproducing the T-molding. I've received several feet of original molding in order to give some decent samples to my supplier. However, what I find interesting is that I have 2-3' of "FLAT" T-molding however, parts of the molding bows out like much like standard T-molding that we are seeing reproduced now. Which makes me wonder... Are we sure that this isn't how the T-molding was original? Are we sure that it just flattened during installation and then flattened more as it dried up and became very brittle?

Not sure where you got your 2-3' but all the T-molding i have that is original on my cabs is 100% flat.

The stuff thats out there now doesnt bother me at all...but i guess if there was a "flatter stuff" available id get some

I agree, what's out there is not that bad... Just figured I'd put the need for this to a close, get pricing, offer up what it will cost per machine and if there is STILL enough interest then I'd move forward.

The samples I got came from an original machine. Most of the sections are perfectly flat. However, some of the pieces, which broke in half have a standard T-molding look to them... Fatter down the center and thin on the edges. It's all crunchy Nintendo T-molding and from the same machine.

The samples Bill refers are from my orginal Nintendo cab.
As I was removing I noticed the some sections were flatter than others
as Bill pointed out all from the same strand but the "flatness" varied
take a good look at your orginals closely it and see if its indeed flate from top to bottom and dosnt vary.

Also note:there is a small ridge on the underside of the molding on each side of the width to fit over the 9/16" width

Will do ill check it out tonight.

You know that kind of makes sense. I got some from Mike's and really pounded it into my control panel and it gets pretty flat. - Barry

Isn't the original made from PVC plastic which is why it's brittle and has changed color. What's the stuff their selling now made of? I hope this new T-molding is gonna be made from PVC also or you might as well just use the regular T-molding.

Ok here is my next dilemma. I know one other member is sending me samples for sure but I really need 1-2 more samples if possible.

T-molding Sample 1 is 0.585" wide and 0.032" thick (From jawhn)

T-molding Sample 2 is 0.598" wide and 0.042" thick (From Rich Lint)

So, which one is correct? I don't know. All I know is the samples I measured from are both FLAT (ignored the samples from rich that weren't flat) and both have a ridge on the bottom of the edge that wrap over the sides (technically).

I think they are both close enough that maybe I'm fine. I agree, if this isn't made from PVC then most likely we can just scrap the project.

Man..I think the t-molding available looks nice enough...are we that anal that we have to have it exact...shit the stuff nintendo used was shit anyway..thats why it needs replaced....just saying..:D

You know you'll place the first order with me!!! ;) Oh, and when are you getting that Venture from New Jersey? Oh yeah, I bought it!

I think the goal is to have a smooth / shinny / flat T-molding that is as close as possible to the original T-molding that Nintendo used. The manufacturer should be able to tell me what material it was made out of. Most likely a PVC type material.

Yeah, I have yet to see any decent repro "near Nintendo" T-molding that's as flat as all the original stuff I've seen. It's definitely flat and square-edged.

I don't care if it's made from more pliable, newer material stuff, but the shape is definitely very different.

If the price is the same, or at least pretty close to the same, I'm in for a cab or two's worth. Might be willing to go 'double' the price without going KLOV-OCD-cheapass...

I'm honestly surprised it's not still available somewhere... You know Nintendo just dropped bottom-dollar coin BITD on what was available...

Maybe there's a Japanese company that still makes it for $0.05 a foot. :D

Did you take a look at the pics in the other thread I posted to see if the samples match?

BTW...thanks for taking the baton on this. Major props if you can make this happen.

No..I didn't bother getting the Venture..I was too busy buying a few NIB games... While your shipper was dropping your near perfect venture and ruining the base...I was peaking into a new box to see the treasure inside...

I would probably purchase the molding for future nintendo projects..but I don't see how the flat looks any better to be honest..i guess I'd have to see new molding produced and installed to really make an honest judgement..its hard to do now because all the molding is 20 plus years old, yellowed and looks like shit...some new white flat molding might change my view...glad your taking this on..I don't have enough interest to worry about it...:D

Haa ha... Yup, Yellow freight was ruining a perfect machine while you were looking inside your new games!

I have a question on the flat molding. Is it normal for it to become brittle and just break apart due to age when you try to bend it? I got a Punchout cab today and I tried to bend a piece back into place and it just crumbled in my hands.
