Nintendo Coin mechs. USA quarters to Canadian quarters??

Howdy.....small problem trying to solve. I live in Canada. I purchased and just finished restoring a Popeye from a fellow KLOV member that resides in the USA.

My restoration

anyways........

A Canadian quarter will NOT work as its a USA machine. I pulled the magnets out of the mechs. Funny how the magnet will pick up and STOP a Canadian quarter from passing through yet the magnet lets a USA coin pass through the gate. After pulling the magnet it helped BUT it seems like only 1 in every 6 cdn. coins will actually drop. Most are rejected. NOT a huge deal if its a home machine BUT the machine will reside in a family business.

Other then magnet removal does anyone have any suggestions? Anything else I can do?? Or is it best to find a Canadian version mech??

I assume a Donkey kong, Jr, or Popeye mech would be the same??

Where in Canada are you?

I have a nintendo cab with canadian coin mechs, I'll snap some pictures later today to see if you can spot the difference .. I don't actually know what is different between the two.

I am in BC

SOME nintendo cabs are quite different. Like a Punch out or play choice 10 mech is completely different then a popeye or kong. Most of the first generation stuff (popeye, kong, kong jr, kong 3....) should be all the same!

Canadian Quarters are primarily steel (95%?) while US quarters are primarily Copper.

Copper is not magnetic, steel is. Old CDN quarters will work just like US ones, as they were primarily silver, newer ones will not. 68 and older, 68-99 were nickel and magnetic.

If you have Canadian Mechs, they have no magnets and rely on sizing and sometimes weight. US mechs have the magnet to weed out slugs, and still work otherwise the same way.
