Hey all! I am trying to replace some fried monitors in my red tent that is about 50% restored.

Just curious if anyone knows if there is an lcd out there that I can use as a replacement, or if there is a mod I'd have to apply.

All I know for sure is that the monitors that come with the red tents are no longer manufactured, nor are parts easy to come across.

Also, if this works out well for the red tent, I am considering doing the same thing for my upright DK machine. So any lcd help in this area would be nice as well.

Thanks all! I look forward to your replies.

Do a search for LCD. This came up in the general forum about a month ago.

I don't know if you thought about it, or care, but the LCD is going to give you a much different look/texture than the original games.

Thanks for the link, JamBurgler.

I read what was replied in the linked thread.
Honestly, searching for an existing post on the topic hadn't occured to me at the time. Even so, the information failed to answer my questions regarding lcds.

While I appriciate the crt visuals on classic games, the reality I face is that it will be cheaper to buy all new lcds for my red tent. working monitors just do not come up that often, and when they do, I can never afford the shipping.
Donkey Kong doesn't necessarily need an lcd replacement, but I like to plan ahead on the eventuality that I will be facing the same problem with it that I am with my red tent.

@Level42- I appreciate you sharing your opinion. They may suck straight out of the box, but I am sure there is something I can do to soften the image.
So ultimately I still need to know if anyone has had any luck in getting an lcd to display properly on a nintendo cab and the brand of the lcd.

As stated before LCD will not look the same. Have you considered using the CRT from an old T.V.?
Anyway if your going to do this. You may as well use a multi board that supports this type of thing.
Or
Use this:

I really don't think it will matter much which monitor you use since as you said you can adjust it.

lcds jsut dont have that glow you look for in a classic arcade game. i mean even when i was bulding my mame i still wanted something that looked period correct so i used a crt computer monitor

i agree , lcd's look like junk, i however used a reguar crt computer monitor with a converter in my street fighter 2 and it doesnt look to bad, next time if i need a cheaper alternative ill buy a converter and use a regular tv with s-video pot

Also unless you are standing exactly centered on the screen the picture looks like ass, wait no matter where you stand the picture still looks like ass, and not any old ass , like H U G E ass.

I just saw one in a game, I didn't like it.
