So I began the tear-down and repair of the DK Cabaret that I plan on restoring before the summer is over. I removed the slats that were added to hold the roof in place, removed the monitor and board, reattached the roof and did a bit of bondo work.

While waiting for the bondo to dry, I decided to try and remove the marquee sticker, as I have a NOS one that I will eventually be replacing it with. After I removed it with my heated decal remover, I flipped it over and saw a little blue and red peeking thru the old adhesive. 'Holy shit' I said, 'there' s a preserved Space Demon marquee stuck to the back of it'! Within minutes I had the two separated and was able to get them side by side for a comparison. Kinda cool, now I know what this cab started out as.

Nice find! I love reading about people finding stuff they never expected under graphics, inside cabs etc. Must have been some work separating the two.

Cool! Probably at the factory, too.

Nice find Shawn. Was this from the same cabinet that came from here?.

So you gonna restore it as Space Demon now, or keep it as a DK?

I don't think Space Demon would interest me much, but a Sheriff would be pretty neat to have. Missed out on a Bandido (Exidy's US release) in Dallas a while back due to heavy rain while I was passing through. :(

Yep the one you sold me. When I brought it home, the monitor crapped out after 10 minutes. After that chip 5K went bad on the video board so I just shoved it into the corner and let it sit until last week.

Yeah it was factory, as the upper board mount in this cab is set at the same height and position as the Space Demon I had here last year. It is set way too high for a DK 4 board stack so extra L brackets had to be added:

...I wonder if that was a factory conversion!

Edit:
That also explains the single slot coin door.

Rather interesting indeed. And I have evidence to support this theory as well : Of my (3) DK cabarets, (2) are the blonde laminate versions with single slot coin doors. One of which still has it's original marquee sticker in place. A quick inspection revealed the same blue sticker appears to be underneath it (pics below).

And while typing this out right now I thought to go check the serial plates for other evidence, and sure as sh*t they both have (4) extra holes under and around them that would have held a different plate at one time.

Looks like Radar Scope uprights weren't the only unused factory stock converted to DK to meet demand.

Phet, what kind of t-molding are you going to put on this cabinet? I have yet to find true-flat brown.

Are you going to do white and make the cabinet a color?

Holee SHIT....an original Space Demon marquee sticker, unfaded!! Get that over to Rich ASAP!

I've already had the original marquee traced and vectorized (by Pixelhugger over on the BYOAC forums) but I had no idea what colors to use. We need to match color!

I wondered why this thread died so quick. But then again, I'm getting used to it.
