This was originally a donkey Kong presumably yeah?

Was a random estate sale auction I came across and got this for 60 bucks. Figured if the monitor was decent I couldn't go wrong, pick it up in the morning.

Could be donkey kong, donkey kong jr, or popeye. Donkey Kong and popeye was blue, DK Jr was orange. Unfortunately I don't see a whole lot of color peeking through. Seems to currently be a Nintendo Vs system (really common conversion).

That is a Nintendo VS cabinet
Yeah also seems to me that it's open to interpretation as it sits right now. Control panel and marquee does suggest vs as is.

Whatever it is I'll try to get an idea of the color underneath if there is any, and probably turn it into a Mario Bros or a donkey Kong 3 as a long term project. Not too many Nintendo cabs turning up that people don't want crazy money for around here lol. They didn't show any inside pictures but you can tell the pcb cage is still in there at minimum from one of the angles

Someone made a change to the speaker grille area and to the bezel area. The small circle is a Donkey Kong related monitor bracket location

Thanks for pointing those out. I already noticed the speaker grille area had been customized and was thinking about how I was going to fix it.

Never worked on or had any hands on with a Nintendo cab so I'm going into it relatively blind. For the bezel, do you think what they did would hinder me from installing a repro bezel correctly?

The speaker area gets busted up from people using it as a lift point to move the game.

The bezel, not 100% sure what's going on with it so I couldn't really say.

Monitor has life, no clue if it's supposed to be green when not connected to anything 😆 assume it's probably just driven up high, not bothering with checking that right now. board is 100% toast so didn't even bother trying it.

Will either repair it, have it repaired, or sell it broke.

Amazing deal.

Take the batteries out of the PCB for sure.

The grill area is totally fixable. You will need to cut a small piece of plywood for the bottom.

The RBI daughter card might be totally fine. It can also run Super Sky Kid.

My vote is restore it as a VS. So many amazing games.

Looks to have originally been a blue Donkey Kong.
100% a donkey kong besides the color/back door paperwork pointing that out, hiding underneath the vs serial tag was the original donkey kong serial tag.

I considered making it a Donkey Kong again or just keeping it a vs but my sons really into mario games and loves playing the arcade games generally so it feels right to make it into a mario bros.

started the sanding today and put some wood filler into the spots it was needed. Going to take apart the panel and get that ready for paint and fit a piece of wood into it this upcoming weekend i'm thinking.

No idea what i'm doing with the PCB. If somebody is interested in it i'd probably just send it to them for cheap. Don't know enough about working on them quite yet to be confident taking it on in its current state. Seems to me several caps have leaked quite a bit and i have no idea the extent of the damage that would've done on its own, let alone if somebody turned it on while it was connected several times getting it ready for auction lol.

The monitor is still a mystery to me if its supposed to be green or if my green drive is just stuck high. Doesn't seem to respond to any knobs being turned much in terms of color, don't think ill know much more until i get a working PCB connected to it. Will probably test things like B+ and if the neckboard transistors are good soon. It has had some caps changed and obvious work done to the neck board within the last 10 years based on the clean solder so it seems like it would probably be operable unless it has a tube issue. At least it has raster
